Thanks for the replies bepp & clem, appreciate it! Will keep this in mind. Do you think a 25gal would suffice for ~4 acres, spraying for broadleaf weeds that I keep cut at 3.5"?? I don't mind do a refill during the process, but I don't want to constantly be running back to refill the tank...
I've got a lot of native bermuda on the lot, and would like to see it thrive by cleaning out the goose grass, plantain, etc. And 4 acres is too much to cover with a pump sprayer...
Using my fine spray rough estimites i think you can spray about 1 tank per acre. You will have to fill up bout 4 X. But depending upon the rates of the 2 4 D or whatever you use that amout of spay per acre can vary. The think you need to consider is the GPM of the pump and the swath width when you want to calculate your ground speed you need to go. It may be so slow depending upon pump output at a fine spray that it makes it painfully slow with say a 4ft boom.
OK clemsonfor, I think I'm beginning to understand... May need to keep an eye peeled for a 50gal with an 6-8' boom, whether it be carryall or TPH mounted. Yes, 2-4-D was what I'm thinking of using, or something similar. Do you use a foam additive to mark your trail?? Been thinking that the first couple of times that might be worth the money spent until I get a feel for the sprayer...
If you had a thing like the bug boys use on one side of a foam trial you can follow that but i think you will need a seperate attachment to make the foam trail. I would just buy a quart of dye at TSC or wherever and Dye the herbicide. Pretty much everything is capatible with dye. The label will say if it is. Most is blue in color and a little bit goes a long way. In 20 gallons you only need a few ounces to make it so dark you cant see through it. Something to keep in mind is that i know glyphosates say that the dye can lessen the effectiveness of the herbicide. I dye about half the time and really have not had it not work though, but i usally mix it to the strong side so that i can spray the grass as well as woddy stems, like sweetgum and other stuff,
I have that 25 gal sprayer and I use it on my kudzu....its worked well so far. I use the generic glysophate everyone else has talked about and it does a number on the 'zu.
