Front-End Loader Worst things to do to a FEL

think my cylinders on the FEL went belly up from digging up asphalt-there are some sort of 'stops' at the back of the cylinders and the dealer said they were pushed right back.

2. Be mindful of bucket position when lifting high. It is easy to dump objects and material back on yourself and the tractor if you are curled ALL the way back and raise to MAX height. And along the lines with this, don't raise the loader any higher than you need to.

This is a good one - especially for things that can roll like a log or barrel.

Don't asymmetrically load it either with a chain or by pushing. Don't use it as a bulldozer or to ram things. Don't push tree branches or tree trunks that can act as a huge spring and take your head off. Don't push over trees which can break off high up and crash down on you. Don't use it without adequate rear ballast. Don't transport weight in it when elevated. Don't lift heavy objects when on a surface inclined perpendicular to the tractor. Don't ride people in it.

When used as a portable beer cooler, put the ice in before the beer.

Mostly use common sense, if that nagging voice in your head speaks up try and listen...
I tell the new guys at work
1.Carry a load as low as possible
2. Avoid high speed or tight turns with a loaded bucket, especially if its raised high.
3.Lower a loaded bucket slowly
4.Avoid quick stops with the bucket raised more than 1/2 way, especially if loaded heavy.

When bushhogging figure 8s around the trees, go SLOWLY. That means do not use high range 2nd gear at 1900rpm (540pto) trying to beat the sunset like I was. Sudden stops aren't comfortable. I was doing just fine until I started paying more attention to the bushhog than the fel.

Yeah. My brother us always complaining that I'm going too easy on my tlb. Of course, he has torn up all his stuff already.
.

We've got guys around here that are tough on equipment. Heck, they'll break and anvil.

My Dad always said my brother and I could tear up a steel ball bearing with a rubber mallet...
For some good reading, find Spiveyman's post on what he did to the fel on his Ford tractor.

This thread looks like my diary entry for last weekend.

"Hold my beer and watch this."

The first thing on my list of "must have's" when I bought my tractor was a cup holder.:)

As in aviation, "12 hours between the bottle and the throttle."

Is this always a no-no, or does it matter if the machine is in "float"? Obvously it would take some serious skill to "float" with the front wheels off the ground :)

Anyone with some wisdom?
