How many rocks are you talking about? Is this an attachment for occasional use to get a small amount of rocks out or a one time job to get lots of rocks out?

If your arena is for riding horses, your top layer should be sand. Dirt is the sub base. On top of graded dirt add a geotextile fabric, then 3-6 inches of 1/4 down limestone for drainage and top with 3-6 inches of sand, depending on your riding/jumping needs.

i am aware of the concept of fabric and sand. we are planning a new arena and i plan useing fabric and sand. we great red dirt we ride in now and everytime we till or rip the top to fluff it we exspose rocks, mostly palm size or smaller, but some are brick size. I am looking for sometype of moving screener that can seperate the rock from the dirt while moving around the arena.

I got this type of rock bucket for a similar use. It can clog up with dirt if it's sticky like clay but makes the task of picking up rocks a lot easier and faster than doing it by hand.

There are of course motorized rock pickers like Rockhound for a skid steer but they are expensive to purchase. But if you have a one time big rock picking job to do you can rent one and they are the cats meow. :)

John,
I have considered one of these buckets with a vibratory shaker added to it. This would help get the dirt to pass through while still holding the rock. I would think that this close a spacing would be very difficult to use unless everything is pulverized and dry.

That's an interesting idea. How would you do it, with a hydraulic motor? But, I would think that something like the robo rock picker would be easier and more effective use of a hyd motor setup

As far' as my bucket it works well in my arena which is sand and sifts right out. It's when I use it for other dirt sifting projects that it can be an issue if you try to scoop and sift too much at once. Another thing is that I've busted a couple of the tips off the tines. I guess I should have payed attention to the web site when it says it is not for prying.

One of my customers and good friends is giving me an enclosed shaker from one of his drilling rigs to try out. Will change the electric motor out to a hydraulic one that can plug in to the 110's front auxillary circuit. I am hoping it will allow the bucket to penetrate the surface an inch or two more easily but if not I can still till the ground before sorting the rocks off the surface. If I can get it to work with my existing rock bucket then I would build up one with closer spacing such as yours.
