I have a 3T mini-excavator (Komatsu, PC-30MRx) and would like to add a thumb. I do not want to get into building it myself, but will not rule out that possibility. Based on other threads here, I checked out the Bro-Tek thumbs (Bro-Tek: Tractor Add Ons), but they seem to be made for lighter units, like the Deere 15.
Thumbs seem to come in two types: weld-on and pin-on. The weld -on comes with the cylinder and thumb fabricated to a plate that is welded to the stick. In the pin-on type, the thumb uses the same pin as the bucket and only the cylinder is attached to the stick. The pin-on is more expensive.
Aside from cost, which type is preferred?
