I hooked up the Powerhorse 13 Ton splitter on the B2910. I've just done some basic tesing with it... Split a few Black Locust logs without any problem...

I've attached a quickie video link: The tractor was running just above idle.... about 1200 RPM.

Some initial thoughts and observations on this splitter.

1) Price was 549.99 from the catalog and I had a $20 coupon. The shipping was $92.00 and there was no sales tax. The hoses, QCs and fittings came to about $100.00 so I think the price totals to about $725.00.

2) Speed at about 1200 RPM like in the video is fast enough for me and I can bump up the RPM if I want it to go faster.... It's a noise vs speed ratio thing.. I prefer the lower noise level myself.

3) I think the wedge is not quite tall enough. If it was about 4 or 5 inches taller it would have less tendance to lift the log.

Overall the unit is very nice.... no extra motor to maintain and the whole unit is very compact and easy to store.

I think I'm going to enjoy this...

Regards,
Chris

Would like to see a video splitting wood when you get the chance.

From the video it looks like you have a stroke time just under 10 seconds. I'd be interested if increasing the engine speed gives you any faster stroke. With my JD 2320, mine has about the same stroke time at a little over 2000 rpm, but any more increase in rpm doesn't change the stroke time. This makes me wonder if the splitter has a flow limiter to limit the speed.

Running at 1200, you'll really get the benefit of the 3 point splitter - not having to listen to a screaming little gas engine.

Kenny,
Yes it will go faster at high RPM.... At PTO RPM the extend stroke is about 7 seconds and the return is about 5... But that is more noise than I want to listen to and more fuel..

I found when I was looking at QD's that some really limit the flow. I have all 1/4 in hoses and they will support 5GPM. The problem is many of the 1/4 in QD's flow 3GPM or less, and some as low as .5GPM. I used 3/8 in QD's that support 6GPM.

Chris
