I've been "kinda thinking about" a box blade for my driveway, since resurfacing it this summer. I've got a back blade. which has done pretty good, but it takes numerous passes and a lot of playing with the position control.

So, I spot a 6' box blade on C/L, call the guy and he still has it. I was a bit unsure, if I needed it, if it was too big for the NAA and "How many times am I going to use it?". When he explained it, it sounded pretty massive, rusty, etc..

So, I go look and it's about what I expected ... Heavy Duty and nothing to look at.

Long story, short, I bought it, after he knocked off $25. As much as it weighs, I could get the $175 I paid, in scrap. ??

So, let's "kick the tires" on this beauty.

It is Heavy Duty!, It has retractable scarifiers (I mean, they swing up, out of position), (even though 3 are missing), it has a "smoothing", hinge mounted, plate on the back, behind the blade, a nice coating of rust and some bends and dents ... oh! and a little yellow paint.

It might have been part of the Titanic, as you'll notice it has a boat cleat welded on the back. I'm not sure whether that was to lift it or maybe, attach a drag. Also, it has 3 large chunks of steel bar welded on the front, which I think, the NAA could do with out. The pins will have to be reversed, as they are almost too wide for the lower arms. I'll spend some time "un-bending" it, wire brush it a bit and give it a coat of paint.

I gave the driveway a couple of short passes .. down and back. I think, it's going to be OK.

bearcreek, I am in your area! ... so that makes it, "an even better deal". I didn't want to pay a fortune, while they might work great, I'll only need it a couple of times a year, at the most.

I was looking to see what I could learn about the scarifier shanks. It could be an early Gannon or Woods box blade. ?? The paint color would match, plus they use the slotted shanks. Woods 6' is around $2,000, now!

I don't think that it is a Gannon. I believe that Gannon always used clevis type mounts for the lower draft links.

Looks good for the money spent. It should work with tractors below 40 hp pretty well.

Well, I've made some progress on the new box blade.

I straightened the handle on the scarifier assembly, reversed the lower draft pins and removed, I don't know how many pounds of, the added steel. Took a few more pictures and gave the driveway a few passes. The drive didn't need any attention, but I had to do it! :licking:

I'd like to straighten the sides before paint, but that will require dis-assembly. I'm thinking, that back plate might be for "pushing", as some of the Gannon and Woods boxes have fixed blades, back there.

Pictured is one of the scarifier shanks, the steel removed, ...., the back, hinged plate and ...

The hinged scarifiers make it a Gannon, I think (and make it worth a lot more than $175!!!!)

At least $400-500 in my area for a hinged 6 footer.
