I've been "kinda thinking about" a box blade for my driveway, since resurfacing it this summer. I've got a back blade. which has done pretty good, but it takes numerous passes and a lot of playing with the position control.
So, I spot a 6' box blade on C/L, call the guy and he still has it. I was a bit unsure, if I needed it, if it was too big for the NAA and "How many times am I going to use it?". When he explained it, it sounded pretty massive, rusty, etc..
So, I go look and it's about what I expected ... Heavy Duty and nothing to look at.
Long story, short, I bought it, after he knocked off $25. As much as it weighs, I could get the $175 I paid, in scrap. ??
So, let's "kick the tires" on this beauty.
It is Heavy Duty!, It has retractable scarifiers (I mean, they swing up, out of position), (even though 3 are missing), it has a "smoothing", hinge mounted, plate on the back, behind the blade, a nice coating of rust and some bends and dents ... oh! and a little yellow paint.
It might have been part of the Titanic, as you'll notice it has a boat cleat welded on the back. I'm not sure whether that was to lift it or maybe, attach a drag. Also, it has 3 large chunks of steel bar welded on the front, which I think, the NAA could do with out. The pins will have to be reversed, as they are almost too wide for the lower arms. I'll spend some time "un-bending" it, wire brush it a bit and give it a coat of paint.
I gave the driveway a couple of short passes .. down and back. I think, it's going to be OK.
