Pendulum vs. plain spreader?

hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I just bought a vicon and would appreciate if someone could answer a few questions. first before I bought the spreader it was my understanding that they are the most accurate spreader available. after reading the book I come to find that the amount of fertilizer decreases as you move away from the center of the spreader so that by the time you get to the very edge of the spreading width there is very little fertilizer as compared to directly behind the spreader. is there a different spout that I can buy or something I can do to get the spreader to spread a more uniform amount of fertilizer throughout the entire spreading width? I am using this to sidedress sweet corn and want an even, uniform amount of nitrogen spread across all the rows covered by the spreading width. also the book describes how to do a calibration test with the optionally purchased calibration device (with this you don't need to remove the spout). how do I perform this test without this optional accessory? I think I read somewhere how to do it by removing the spout without the optional accessory but can't find where I read that. thanks for any help

I assume changing spouts also the correct way to throw to one side?

rotating the spouts 180 degrees changes the flow pattern
as well as using the optional baffle plate on some models
to prevent overspreading to one side or the other when
you are working near water or ditch lines.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I just bought two Vicon spreaders at an auction yesterday, for $100 a piece. One has sat in a barn, but has never been used. The other is heavily used, including some serious rust to the frame due to fertiziler. Both spreaders have damaged pendulum tubes. I thought about trying to fabricate my own tube out of some coil stock or something. Has anyone tried this or had any success. One of the tubes is in better shape, but the plastic "loop" looking thing on the end is broken. Sorry I sound so ignorant, but I have never used a pendulum type spreader. Looking for advise on them, and especially coming up with new pendulum tubes.
