Yep you'll need some slop in the pivot point so the blade can move up and down on each end, that's a fact but you may need to double up on your trip springs. That blade will tip to easy and if there's snow on the back end of the blade it will flick back at you and will do it fast. Just say'en. Nice job though.

OK- Got it back from Powder Coat.........I have never been more disappointed. If you look close enough at the pictures you will see entire areas on the top and back of the mold board that he didn't get with Yellow. Not sure if I will drive back to get it fixed (1.5 hours each way) or repaint over it myself? Anyone got tips for spraying over gloss powder coat. I was really hoping to avoid spraying this thing, and o by the way he up charged me $100 from the original quote????????

Anyway enjoy the pictures and fire away with questions and comments........

The black rubber cutting edge was just an experiment that failed miserably. I tryed it on the blacktop and it almost wore out in about 50 feet. I guess I will stick to the steel cutting edge.

Great fabrication job. I've found that yellow powder coating is like yellow paint, it needs some sort of primer underneath. My preference would be a flat white powder primer. I would think you can spray paint right over the powder coat; but I'd try a small spot for compatibility.

The manufacturers of Cardinal powder coating products make rattle can touch up paints; so that might be an alternative if the powder coater used Cardinal and a distributor is near you.

If you intend to completely respray the blade, I'd scuff up the gloss somehow.

I'm with ya on the scuff job to repaint it. the Yellow seems to be a little off from the John Deere Yellow or maybe it is just the fact there isn't enough Yellow to cover the primer and it is looking sort of pastel?

Thanks for the feedback on the Fab

Looks like a nice fab job. At first look I thought those gussets would interfere with your timing bar.....but no.....nice work. How far back (from the JD QA) did you mount the plow hangars?

Edit: OK....now I see.....you are floating the loader and not the plow. Got my oranges mixed up with my apples for a minute. ;)

Did he apply the powder coat over a primer??? My powdercoater always snadblasts the item, heats it and powder coats it than reheats it.

He would never apply over an existing finish.

Or am i misunderrstanding your post.

And i wouldnt of paid the extra $100 or put up with a spotty end product. The idea of a powder coat is for a uniform thick coating that LASTS and Lasts.

He did put a powder coat primer on it but when he went to apply the yellow he went really light in spots and in others spots (top of the plow) he pretty much missed it all together. If you zoom in you can notice the grey primer showing through on the back right side of the mold board and the top of the plow. he also didn't sand blast the top of the plow very well. He said he would fix it but I have to take it back 1.5 hours and leave it. Always my luck:confused:
