I just bought this disc at a really good price and was wondering if anyone was familiar as to the specs or duty, being mid or heavy duty. It appears to be pretty heavy duty to me, but I'm thinking it is more of a mid duty weight. I'll be using it with a John Deere 4520 53 hp tractor, mainly for food plots and gardening.

It appears that Tufline does not make this model any longer and the tag states it is a TS model. It measures 7' between the back discs, and the spacings are 7 1/2" between the discs. The discs measure 17 1/2", so I assume they were originally 18". All the welds are in great condition and as expected the discs have some wear, but they still have plenty of life left in them.

I think Tufline makes a great product and I assume this disc would sell new for somewhere between $1500-1700. Correct me if I'm wrong. I just need some info on it if anyone has any input.

Also, any idea how old this might be?

I did yesterday. Surprisingly, the rep stated he couldn't give me that much information on it without seeing it. He did fax me a parts list, but that was about it.

Looks like the TME series uses 2 X 3 gang hanger frames. From the pictures, appears that is what yours has too? Could also remove one of the outer blades and verify axle size to see what is comparable. Typical sizes will be 1" or 1 1/8" for these disc harrows.

I am not familiar with that disc. Maybe that is why I can't figure out why those chains are around the shafts. Do you have any idea why they are there?

We do have a tuffline box blade. It is prety tough. I also think they make good products.

I have a disk that is very similar to yours. Your bearings look different. Mine has the sealed ball-bearings. Are yours the greaseable sleeve bearings?
Mine also has the blade scrapers. I also bought mine "used" and don't have details about it. It does seem to do a decent job, but I have only used it in a small vegetable garden.

I have seen people add chains (like those) to disks to keep the dirt from packing-up between the blades (essentially serving the same purpose as blade scrapers).

Correct!! I've never seen the use of chains until I bought this disc. It makes sense though.

BTW....my bearings are encased friction bearings, and greasable.

Correct on the chains - I added them to my disk to keep from plugging between blades where there are no hangers. Works great. I am unable to get scrapers for my larger disk anymore so it is slowly being converted to chains as scrapers break.

Thanks for the info on the chains. I may have to try that out.
