Chipper Anyone use a PTO chipper?

Does anyone have a chipper they use, and like? I have been wondering about using one on my MF1260. I have rented the Vermeer stand alone chippers and they work well. I have a Troybuilt 8 hp chipper, and it works not so well for the amount of material I have. I have an endless supply of 1-4" limbs and treetops, and outdoor burning bans to contend with.

Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

I had a Wallenstien bx 42 on my 24 pto HP ford. It plowed through everything I fed it. Get something with a ramped feed shute so the material will self feed. I sold it to buy a backhoe attachment.

I have a Wallenstien also and love it. It's built solid as a rock. It will plug up if you feed softwood branches to fast but is very easy to open up and clean out.

Agreed, I have plugged mine up by feeding too many fine branches back to back, but is very easy to clean. There is one bolt and the cutter enclosure opens like a clam shell. I rarely clog now because I try to mix the big and small stuff, the big stuff self cleans the inside.

I have the BX42r with hydro feed and I like the productivity. I can feed throw a piece in and grab the next piece while the first is feeding. Compared to my DR16.50 it is night and day. So far I think I have chipped close to 10 yards and I still am on the original edge. They are reversible blades so it going to be a while before I need to sharpen.

How many PTO HP does your machine have?
I have a Kubota with 23 HP PTO and I run a 5 " chipper shredder, make Maybe BushHog ??.
Do not get too large a chipper if you plan to be a one man crew to Feed , stack , and remove chips, they will were you down.

With that tractor you should have no problem powering a 5-6" chipper. I have a 4 1/2" capacity Goossen chipper/shredder and my 22pto hp tractor has no problem running it. I mostly chip red cedar and pine for mulch on flower beds and garden paths.

I have been running a Wallenstein BX40 on my B7100. If it fits in it chips. I found that running the PTO in high worked better then at 540 as recommended. Bought this chipper used and found the previous owner somehow bent the chipper disk. Even with the wobble to the disk once the cutters were adjusted it chips fine. It does not throw chips very far but has never jammed up on me.

A PTO chipper may be little more trouble to hook up as opposed to a tow type, but it also means one less engine to maintain. A chipper may not be used for months at a time. I've got an 8" Liberty that I run with my 29hp Branson and no problems so far. :thumbsup:

I put 60 hours on a borrowed 6" Jinma auto feed PTO chipper and was so happy I bought one for myself.

Bearcat here. It's my most used implement and has performed flawlessly. 3 years of heavy use - both hard and soft woods. Has never plugged or let me down. Heaviest flywheel in its class, which is primary reason I chose it over the Wallenstein.
