Hey Iron Brew, If you want to try out your new winch bring it on over to my place, I broke my Farmi yesterday, the winch is about 34 years old and this is the first repair i am making tomorrow other than cable repairs. The drive chain to the clutch broke and i just got a new chain this afternoon. Once you get the feel for this machine you will wonder how you lived without it. Good Luck and be EXTREMELY careful when winching the cable in, if it breakes it can kill you. Before you use it make sure the cable clamps are all tight at the end of the cable if there is any and double clamps are a good idea. Just a thought .. . John

Yup, never saddle a dead horse... I have some fraying on the end to deal with (any suggestions? Never whipped wire rope... thinking of wrapped with electrical tape, filled with glue (gluestick) then heatshrink...)

My cable is always fraying on the end where the grab hook is. I don't even think twice now, I just cut it off but before, i hit it with the MIG welder to keep it from fraying then cut it and double clamp it!

That is really cool! Where do you get something like that? Is that the only MFG for these things? I have never seen anything like that.

As far as MFGs Farmi, Wallenstein, Norse, Uniforest, Fransgard. 3 Rivers Forestry handles Farmi, along with other places.
