I'm in the market for a post hole digger to be used on my Yanmar 2210. I've narrowed it down to a couple of choices and wanted to get a few opinons before making my final decision. Here are the group I'm looking at.

The Everything Attachments are a fair price at being in the $600-$700 range especially since shipping is included. I'm also not sure which one out of the Everything Attachments group would work best on the 2210. The Compact one is designed to be used on sub compact tractors like the Kubota BX Series, but the Hybrid one which is the next size up they say is to be used 28-35 hp tractors. You can see a similar post hold digger video on the compact post hole digger at L7200JR Junior Tractor 3 Point Hitch, PTO Driven Post Hole Digger, Driller, Auger, for Compact and Sub Compact Tractors one of the videos at the bottom listed as which tractors need the jr post hole digger shows it on two Kubota tractors.

I like the fact that the Worksaver can accept a down force kit even though I don't know if I'll ever need it or not. They are more expensive then the Everything Attachments ones.

The Country Line one from Tractor Supply is the cheapest but I question who makes it and what is the quality.

How many holes are you planning on drilling? Have you ever used one of these things before?

I had one thinking I was going to do lots of useful things with it. I drilled a few holes, and couldn't wait to get rid of it. I traded it in as a down payment on a lawn tractor.

If you're still convinced that you need a post-hole-digger, look at a hydraulically powered one over a PTO powered one as you can reverse the hydraulically powered ones like a cordless drill when the auger gets stuck.

Otherwise look at renting one, or hiring the work out.

A PHD was about the first implement I got, but I've used it the least of my implements (once, just to try it out).

For what it's worth, I've used the grapple the most, followed by the box blade.

Just a suggestion. If you don't have the manual for your make and model of tractor, perhaps by viewing this website TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors to find the specs in regards to your tractor, you will be provided with the info concerning the capabilities of your tractor in relation to attachments. If you have many rocks or stones in your area, be advised that using a PHD will truly be a learning experience for you. Your make and model of tractor has 25 HP. I am not aware of the PTO HP. You will be surprised at how quickly you will wear out an auger bit when dealing with rocks. Around 6 years ago, I rented a skid steer to dig 60 posts to build a fence around our yard to contain our outside dogs. I wore two 9 inch auger bits almost completely down and rendered them useless for any future use.

Don't know if you know it or not but the Countyline from TSC does not come with auger you have to buy seperate. That confuses some people.Also lots of PHD's COME SHIPPED DRY make sure you fill correctly with 80/90 B-4 using.

I'm leaning towards the Everything Attachments Post Hole Diggers because they're a fair price for what you get. I just don't know which one to get due to still undecided which one is the best fit for my 2210. The 2210 has 22 hp at the pto and has a cat. 1 3 point. Its a small tractor but is a little more then the sub compact ones like the Kubota BX.

I'll be using it to dig 12" holes in rooted soil. No clay.

I've also noticed that most if not all manufactures use the Omni Gear Box. Some give a 5 year warranty on the gear box but the Everything Attachments comes with a 90 day warranty which I find odd especially since its the same gear box.

Your going to hate a 3point auger. I would never ever ever ever use one again if i can get away with it. I have one i have a bunch of fence to put in, i am renting a skid loader.

Your neck back your brake leg will kill you. Also its hard on your tractor clutch, plus you cant move your tractor in small enough distances. As your three point drops you have to move your tractor forward.

Also with a pto you got to work your but off getting it in and out of the hole. With a three point you have little if any down force you have to work to get the auger to bite in. When working dry hard soil good luck.

In theory they are great in real world they arnt worth it.

I hate to join the pile on, but I was just like you--just dying to get a PHD digger...until my neighbor let me borrow his.

Very disappointing. Unless conditions are just right, the PHD may no dig well. You art constantly having to adjust the tractor as you dig. Just when everything is going well, the auger binds up and you bust a shear pin.

For a "good hole", in the right conditions, 30 minutes per hole

In comparison I had a guy come out with his skidstear: 2-3 minutes per hole, including getting lined up and cleaning off the auger.

I am so glad I never bought one.

I could be wrong but double check your specs. The JD 2210 is the same as the JD2305 which is 23 hp @ engine and only 18 HP @ the PTO. That said, I've never had problems with implements that were slightly oversized, just slow down.

As far as a PHD, I'm with the OP on wanting one. I've looked around quite a bit, but I heard of all sorts of people hating theirs or just not using them. Maybe I just won't buy one if everyone finds them almost useless.
