Default Found an 8' 3PH disc and a set of plows.

Finally picked up a disc and set of plows for the MF 265 that was the FIL.

Bought this Long Manufacting disc harrow. The Model is 960 and I think 425T may be the serial number. Looking on the web I think the 960 refers to the frame size maybe because I have seen photos of the same frame with a total of 20 blades to 32 blades.

When I checked it out this evening I forgot to count the blades but I think there are 28 per the photo the best I can tell. I think it may be considered 8 foot cut. I did see one 32 blade version referred to as 9' cut. It did measure 10' from outside to outside blades on the rear gangs.

Since it was on the ground I could not check the bearings, axles and see all of each blade but it all seemed to be in working order with all sealed bearings intact. The ad stated a $475 price but it was marked $575 but they said since it was posted with the wrong price they would honor the web price vs marked price.

I had another set of new like two bottoms I wanted for $350 but they were $50 away in another direction and since I have to pick up the disc and will go in the F700 there is no addition trip cost with this set that I got for $275 in a package deal. They are very common and not fully complete (discs are missing) but have points that I should never wear out. The main use is to loosen up a hill that I moving to make a fill at the house for a future shop.

Since both pieces will have set outside these will not get to looking much worse.

Not sure if they are going to throw in the dog house but I will make a case for it after spending more money on equipment.

    Gale,
Let us know what you find out, looks good from here.

About the dog house, I think buying a nice dog house first would be the way to go for all of you married guys. Gotta have a place to live after you buy too many toys.

    Horse Boarding

We are going over to pick them up this afternoon. This is not an equipment dealer per se but sells stuff they really have no use for on the ranch any longer. As you can see it is a working cattle ranch that the seller operators and they offer horse back riding which has the daughter's attention to make the 50 mile trip.

Will let you know have they look in the light of day.

Will a MF265 handle a 8 ft disc? I know the plow should be no problem, but those discs can take a lot of hp, depending on the ground. I had a 10 ft wheel disc, and a 300U would snort pretty good, in sandy ground.

Not sure it will lift it (1200#?) but my FIL pulled an 8-10' wheel disc. 60 HP should do it OK. Well off to get it. Backhoe is down in the field so after the storm last night they may have to set on the truck awhile.

As long as your 3pt lift is in good shape, I don't think that tractor will have any problem lifting the weight. You might need to hang a weight or two on the front end.

I can not used the super heavy duty 7' bushhog (brand unknow) without 250+ weights on the very front.

Got the disc and plow set home just now. The plow is as common as it appears in the photo. It does have long hardened plow points that are bright where the rest is rusty. The OEM paint is Ford Blue so I guess they are 1963 or newer. I expect as is they will last 100 years longer if I stick around and keep using them.

The disk has 28 blades and they are 9" apart. While he had it on the fork lift all four gangs rotated very easily and the axles seemed true.
The front disc are at 18" Safe Mark made in South Africa and the rears are at about 17" and seem to be OEM. While none seem cracked they are somewhat chewed up.

If I can find someone wanting to make an old disk new that have better disc blades than ours I might get their old ones for an upgrade.

What makes the most sense is to get 14 new blades and move the front gangs to the rear then replace the old blades currently on the rear gangs or perhaps just using it as is makes the most sense.

The nice thing is we now have a disc and breaking plows that should meet our current/future neeeds. If I ever get a place to keep it in the dry and have a lot of money/time I may do a restore in OEM colors.

After getting the plow and disc loaded they said there would be no horse riding today so the daughter and I looked around the trading post.

Most of the stuff is used or new/used. The owner was big in the marina business in PA, NJ area for about 40 years and when he sold out of that he moved a lot of inventor. One my be looking at high end used boat fixtures and find an 8 track player on the same aisle.

The kind of place one hates or loves.

Well I ran across an older 12/3 cord/caddy about like above but with some use on it. The price tag had fallen off so the owner had the guy look it up again. After a while he came back out and asked what I would give.

I asked him how long did he have.

He replied as long as it takes to make a deal but being short on time and ready to eat I said $20 and he said $50 bottom dollar then I said $50 for it and the two drinks and four snacks we had eaten. He said $52 and we paid and left.

While we left the equipment loaded we did unstrap it and got the power cord caddy out of the bed of the truck. The yellow 12/3 cord is the size of a cheap 1/2" water hose and measured 82 feet long. The set up weights 40+ pounds.

Found this possible source for the reel caddy we purchased above.

The disc turned out to be a very heavy 9 foot cut. It has 28 blades 9" apart. It was hard for me to count them in the photo.

The JD 310B backhoe FEL was able to clear the bed while I pulled the truck out from under it. It was so heavy that at idle the FEL would start seeping down before I could get off and pull the truck forward.

The 265 MF is going to lift and handle the heavy 9' 3PH disc OK but it would be light in the front if not for the weights mounted there.

On a hard clay hillside I could make some marks.
