Re: New landplane build for L&G and subcompacts
Great project. I've wanted a land plane / scraper for a while. Just haven't had enough use for it to justify the cost. Looking thru this thread gives me some inspiration to go out and just build one.
Where did you get the scraper blades that you used?

Re: New landplane build for L&G and subcompacts
Bought an 8' blade from the deere dealer 5/8" x 6"x96 double edged with center holes and cut it in half. Most of the short blades were lighter duty so buying the 8 foot blade made more sense.

Re: New landplane build for L&G and subcompacts
Thanks. I was wondering if you had done something like that - or - found a source that just sells parts.
Somewhere in my internet travels I know I've seen Co's selling implement parts like the scrape blades and rippers and so forth - I just can't seem to find them now.

Re: New landplane build for L&G and subcompacts
In my locale there are few vendors to choose from, there are lots of internet shortline companies that offer parts but shipping and handling for a long grader blade can make it impractical. The blade I purchased was about $200 loaded in my pickup so about $25/ft of length (made in Canada) and like the prior blades on my first build seem to be of good quality.
The best place to save money on builds such as this is to pay attention at the steel yards, often you can find all or a portion of what you need in the drop piles. This usually means you pickup a shorter length of material if you don't have need for a full length piece. Whenever I am in the steel yards I snoop around to see if there is something reduced that I can use in a project, this will save quite a bit of expense sometimes. Currently I am gathering parts for a few new projects, heavy roller, snowpush, gin pole and rock picker. When I get all the stuff and have the time I will post the new builds.

Re: New landplane build for L&G and subcompacts
After getting pissed awhile back and almost quit this forum it has been requested that I put the pics back as a member want's to build a similar landplane. So while I can't put them back in the thread as before I will try to get them in order anyway.

Glad your still here Steve. I, for one, would miss your voice of experience and sound advise.
