more questions...

On a semi mount does the plow get raised by both the 3 point system and the tire assembly? Does the tire assembly factor into the adjustments for proper plow tilling?

With mine I had to raise the 3pt arms and then hit the hydraulics to raise the rear wheel. It took a little learning to get use to it to use but once you get use to it, it became second nature.

1st they still do make and sell 3 btm fully mounted plows. I know people with them less than 10-15 years old.

With a semi mount plow you are using only the 2 lift arms to pick the front of the plow. The rear wheel also is used for not only lift but steering and setting your rear depth. I like semi mounts and still plow about 30 acers a year on my friends farm farm with one. Many semi mounts can adjust the width of plow, change the amount of roll, and have a side hill hitch which allows them to change with conditions. The smallest semi mounts I've ever seen is a 4 btm. With your tractor I would stay with the 3 btm, 4 may be too much to pull.

Another option is to look for a roll over plow, I see them in a 3 btm. These plows have 6 btms, 3 on each side of the beam. The one set is right handed plows, the other is left. So you can start on one edge of a field and just keep working across plowing back and forth.

Fastline.com, Machineryfinder.com, craigslist and few others are good places to look for a plow.

Here are some pictures of roll over plows.

Sorry, forgot to add semi mount plows usually have a depth wheel on the back so all you do is drop the rear of the plow and it automatically goes to the proper depth.

Its my understanding the rollover plows are harder to pull. If you can pull a standard 3-14 plow then you would only be able to handle a 2-14 rollover. I've never used one, just going by what was said to me. The idea behind it though is its still faster because your not wasting a lot of time driving headlands.

So with the plow in the ground is the wheel at the end of the plow doing anything but just hanging above the ground?

It helps with steering still. It never floats in the air. If I recall its just gravity down. Haven't paid attention to mine in a few years but only recall one hydraulic line running back to there.

I don't know why they would pull harder. I could see having to down size though based on weight, having double everything has to be heavy.

Here is a picture of a semi mount 3 btm plow. It has a single wheel in the back so it would set depth and steer. The linkage above the beam goes from the front hitch to the rear wheel. Now many do have a 2nd depth wheel, where one wheel rides in the furrow and the 2nd on the ground. Some the tail wheel in only in the furrow, and some are "on-land".
