Grapple First day with the Wicked Stump Grapple

Looks like a well made unit.

Last summer I made a frame to accept my snow blade. As the blade can be removed I have been considering making a bolt-on stump bucket - much like you have - but without the grapple. My use would be to transplant some of the many small trees on my land.

In sandy soil, I can see pushing that bucket into the ground in order to move small trees. Also, I can see digging some stumps out with it....especially pine stumps -- where you dont have too many roots radiating from the stump. With a few pushes....I can envision getting under stumps up to 10" inches or so....much depending on soil types.

However It can be ruff duty on a small tractor and a loader.....so I tend to grind stumps out.

Here is a link to Everything attachments from which I made the purchase:

They used to have a great video of the unit in action on a skid steer but it looks like it is no longer available.

They may have been putting up a new video, it is there now - has a picture-in-picture of another video from the manufacturer. Really cool device!

Looks like a really handy rig and I bet I could make it do some cool things.

Nice!

I have read this thread a number of times and I do not see any bashing going on. What I do see is members expressing opinions based on experience and/or just admiration (gee that is neat!). According to the website link given the unit weighs 1008 lbs. Certainly not something you would put on an SCUT or CUT. The OP likes his unit and it works for him. Others may have tried similar designs and found drawbacks due to what they were trying to accomplish. Just my :2cents:

No need to be rude or demeaning!

The OP is proud of his machine; I'm sure he and others are aware of its limitations

Nowhere in the title or post does he say or imply that he is just plucking stumps out like crabgrass

What is accomplished by bashing a poster? The OP has a nice setup. I only have a 26 hp tractor and have been amazed at what I have accomplished with my grapple.
Im getting more than a hint of "no tool left behind" feel good vibes. I have experience with a stump bucket on a heavy and powerful machine. Feel good looks and fantasies arent the real story. A stump bucket is much more on impressive looks than performance - it makes a machine work real hard to get something done. With feel good expectations the awakening is rude to realize that a small strong regular style tooth bucket is much better.

Wouldn't that be like telling a man his wife is ugly? Even if it is true, it accomplishes nothing but hurt feelings.

I think it might be better to suggest the the OP that he probably shouldn't use the stump bucket quite as vigorously as they do in that video though...
Alot of momentum and farm tractor loaders don't seem like a good plan for long term usage. Maybe he knows already and its his tractor to do what he wants with, but I wouldn't mind a quick note if it appeared I was going to break something on my tractor.

Thanks ericher69, it's #6040, and is hardly a "garage queen" as was stated. ****, I don't even have a garage to put it in...yet. Having a barn raising in a few weeks.
Nice tractor and I do like the Stump Grapple! Enjoy your machine, and
Pay no mind to some of the TBN critic's here,as no one will ever have anything better then what they have, or be as smart as they are. Yeah Right!:laughing:

It sure beats a shovel alone!!! stump large- 005.jpg this stump took the help of a chainsaw and a pick ax .A grapple still saved having to hire someone. Thats a big part of the reward of doing things yourself.. Hope you're still enjoying the grapple
