Picked up an old JD bush hog for Ford 8N--will try & post pix:laughing: 2 things up front--I'm old & just keepin the lil horse farm together financially--soooo, I'm a tinkerer. Bought the bush hog for $75.00--good deal me thinks--gear box is fine (probably needs bottom seal) or if that gets to complex, I'll just fill her up with grease & go for the gusto, blades need some TLC. My questions are I suspect the 3 point will keep the front where I want it, but did this HOG come w/ any kind of back floater wheel or if not would it be advisable to pit one on her??? The only #'s are a metal tag on top of the gear box & I can barely make out 540??? other then that tag, I got nothing.

I dont see a bracket for a tail wheel but you could build one and put on it. I noticed a slip clutch on it so you will want to break it down and make sure the liners are not rusted together and also I would get a pto over run coupler for it.

Good advice there.

Definatally get the ORC with that 8n and transmission PTO. MUCH safer.

And I agree, I dont see brackets for a tailwheel.

And with the ridgid straps to the back and not chains, all the tail wheel will do is take some of the weight off the hitch. Which would be handy if you are cutting hilly areas, but the 3PH will hold it where you need it. If you want to fab a tailwheel, thats totally up to you.

And $75 for a working cutter is pretty good deal in my book too.

Thanx Jl gonna pull clutch apart like suggested & yep, my thoughts were to put that back wheel on her just to give the "N" a little break. I hope them twisters didn't hurt you where you are, lots of strange weather going around. Here in upstate NY, we didn't even have a winter--YET--yep, looking or will build a PTO guard.

Glad to help. Luckly the twisters stayed North of us but I did have a lot of friends and family where they hit. All are safe and doing good with little or no damage. :)
