Bought a King Kutter 3 pt. Trailer Mover to move my trailers around the yard. This takes a "standard" 2" ball mount according to all the specs I read. Literature says use the same ball mounts you use with your truck. After delivery, I put the lift pins on the outside, and then found it would not accept either of my 2" ball mounts I've been using for years.

Got the following measurements with my digital caliper:

King Kutter receiver tube - 2"
Chev truck receiver tube - 2 5/32"

Both ball mounts inserts were 2 1/64". Can't slide 2 1/64" into a 2" opening.

Went to the auto store and found an insert that was 1 63/64". It works fine now. The King Kutter also fit my iMatch hitch too. So I'm good to go now.

My concern is I would think a "standard" receiver tube and ball mount insert regardless of brand name would be inter-changeable. Couldn't find a spec for these on the internet.

So there is no standard for a "standard" receiver tube?
That would mean that "standard" is in the eye of the beholder...
... as in "Eye beholdin' a standard receiver that won't fit in a standard receiver tube".

Thanks for the heads-up.
Today's plan was to go to TSC to get a bit of 2" to make an adapter to hitch our lawn mower attachments to out 3pt hitch trailer mover. Now I know I need to measure everything before I go.

Was hoping there might be someone familiar with hitxhes on this forum that might could offer an explanation.

Had another thought. Class III and IV use 2" inserts. Maybe there's a slight difference the 2 classes so they can't be inter-changed.

You may be onto something there ...

Any 2" receiver tube I've ever installed is 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" x .215 wall tubing so a 2" x 2" piece of tubing will fit inside. The next size down is 2 x 2 x 3/16 wall so 1 1/2 piece will fit inside.
Tubing is measured o/d x wall thickness so I doubt if you're ever going to find anything other than standard sizes....Mike

I've seen some homemade receivers with the ridge left inside the receiver. Some hitches would not fit.
