Nice set up.

Do you know what the original weight for the box blade is?

I'm not positive....but my guess is about 300 lbs. I have two more weights to add.....so I can get the total weight up to about 900 lbs. (and I do have a HD "basket" that can go in place of the receiver hitch. I guess I could use that for more weight...but I likely will haul some tools in it. I think it would add about 100 lbs empty.

I had an old chunk of 1/4x 2 x 2" angle iron....about 18" long. I simply bought a 2" reciever at the farm store and welded it to this angle. Then I gusseted it to the inside to prevent bending. Drilled holes and bolted it on. Ir's kinda medium duty.....but it seems to do everything I need with it. I had the 6" drop hitch...and that seems to get me under most trailers pretty well.
Thank you so much for the info.

youll find that if you use the box heavly, and fill it up, that youll push the weights out. (ask me how i know)

instead hang the weights outside the box to reduce the amount of area the dirt can push up against.

I put a 5' lenght of railroad rail on the back of mine. left about a 2" gap between it and the back wall so dirt could still spill out and i wouldnt pack it solid.

the RR rail weighs more than my BB. Id say my BB is only 200-250lbs while the rail is a good 300+

for the record, adding the weight made my box blade act ENTIRELY different. (for the better)

Love the box blade. Searching Craigslist for suitcase weights. Awesome idea.

Adding the imatch also extends the box blade back about 6" which acts as even more counter weight. For me it's the perfect ballast!

makes a huge difference having all that weight. we cut prototype muffler cores at work on our tube-laser. i saved up two 5 gallon buckets of the 3-4mm x 1mm thick 409 stainless slugs from cutting the perforated patterns and packed them into a 2.5" x 5" x 3/8" wall piece of scrap tubing 6ft long and welded that to the back of my box blade. digs good now :)

Has anyone attached a Ballast Box to a Box Blade for added weight? Would love to see a design or better yet a picture if one is available.

I agree! It would utilize the existing weight of the box blade in addition to providing a useful tool.

Edit: I realized after writing the above that this is what the entire discussion is about.

Looks good foggy, I now have 10 suit case weights on my BB. Only 6 in the picture, I also bolted two 60 lb pieces of one inch steel plate to the back.

I have a regular Ballast Box and I've been thinking about attaching it somehow to my Box Blade to add weight. I don't have separate weights so just trying to use what I do have.
