Ballast Box Blade
I now have about 500 lbs of suitcase weights hanging on my box blade. Found several more on CL for a fair price.
This solves buying a ballast box. The weights seem to stay put so far....but I think I will add a retention bar thru the handles. Maybe a cable.

Re: Ballast Box Blade
My tractor was getting a little light on the rear axel and a few times I have felt a rear wheel come off the ground....even with my loaded rear tires and the box blade on. Not good. Today I lifted some stumps and trees and maxed out the loader.....all the tires stayed planted on the ground.

Re: Ballast Box Blade
Yep.....found it a long time ago at a JD dealer. It was painted green already...and was pretty much like new at the time. He sold it to me for cheap. ($200) Does what I need.

Re: Ballast Box Blade
In your picture, if you would keep the box blade as low as posiable it would also improve your stability by lowering the center of gravity. I wish I had made my BB a long and a low rectangle instead of a square mass, cause sometimes, I lift it too high and that makes me pucker! It's all about the center of gravity, Lower the Better!
Thats a nice 2nd use of your box blade.

Re: Ballast Box Blade
Looks good. Curious about the black ones. I have a bunch of the same weights...... a couple of mine (also black) are actually Yanmar weights. They look the same as the JDs, but where the JDs are 42 lbs each, the Yanmar branded weights are actually heavier..... I think 48 or 50 lbs.

Re: Ballast Box Blade
Well done.
If you find time, could you possibly describe the way that you attached the trailer hitch to your box blade? Thanks.

Nice set up.

Do you know what the original weight for the box blade is?Kyle - CompactTractorFan

Re: Ballast Box Blade
I had an old chunk of 1/4x 2 x 2" angle iron....about 18" long. I simply bought a 2" reciever at the farm store and welded it to this angle. Then I gusseted it to the inside to prevent bending. Drilled holes and bolted it on. Ir's kinda medium duty.....but it seems to do everything I need with it. I had the 6" drop hitch...and that seems to get me under most trailers pretty well.
