I have a JD model 51 that I have redone and ready to test. My question is about row markers. This is a 2 row planter so when I make my first pass I need a row marker on the planter to mark where the second row would go. I am thinking - that row maker would be made in the ground on the first pass so when I turn around and come back for the second pass I would put my front tractor tire in that mark so I am lined up with the first to rows? Is this correct or is there a better way to line all the rows up so all are on 30inch spacing?

You could just cut a piece of pvc pipe 90 inches long. Center it and fasten it to the front of the tractor. Tie a piece of string to each end and let it dangle. After you make your first pass when you turn around line up the string over the top of the last row you planted. Keep it over the row and you will have the correct spacing.

that sounds easy enough... Just wondering so if my planter is set up correclty then the rows should be easy seen after I make my first pass? Not a bad idea at all...

When you make that first pass, line up with a tree or something @ the other end and dont take your eyes off of it until you get there and your rows will be straight as an arrow. I love driving down the road and seeing 1/2 mile long rows of corn that I planted being so straight that you cannot detect a wobble or curve in them.

Yes- Sir to that... It is amazing to see a perfect row like some around here... Going to do everything I can to have straight rows... Have 6 ac of sunflowers we are planting so at least if we dont have any doves- I can sit around and gaze over my straight rows.!

But you have more corn plants in a crooked row!

Straight rows used to be something to be proud of, but now with auto steer its starting to become a lost art to drive a straight line. I drive around now and a crooked row really stands out.
