Can you identify this tiller?
Can anyone ID this tiller? It's a John Deere 60 inch tiller. I would like to try and find a model number, manual and/or more info. It's not the standard JD green which I though was weird but it doesn't appear to have been repainted either. When I bought my kubota the owner tossed it in. Thanks for you help!

Re: Can you identify this tiller?
It looks to me like a model 40 tiller. If you go to the jdparts search for catalog 1570. I've gathered the individual sections for the tiller into this file: 40_tiller.pdf.
Ebay has several manuals....tech, parts and operators...
Good Luck!

Re: Can you identify this tiller?
Thanks for your reply, Do you know anything about these tillers? I'm wondering if the drive chains run dry or if the housing needs filling up with gear oil. I can't seem to find a filling nut.

Re: Can you identify this tiller?
Just from looking at the parts diagrams, I'd say that chain is probably greased. I don't have one myself; it's just an educated guess based on the design.

Re: Can you identify this tiller?
I know nothing (said like Sgt. Schultz!)...just took your challenge to identify the tiller from the pictures.
From the diagrams, it looks like it would not be in a bath, since (on page 3 in the file) looking at the tine shaft with sprockets, there's no seal near the bearing or sprocket, if it were me I'd grease it up and let it be. The operator manual your closest Deere dealer, they could tell you too.
Good luck.Last edited by RippySkippy; 04-19-2012 at 03:41 PM.
