I am looking to buy a discbine to cut about 175 acres for hay. I want to get as big as possible and still get a good cut. The ground is fairly flat, but definitely has some roll and unevenness in places. Is 9' too big? I am worried about scalping and poor cutting. Many thanks in advance for your opinion.

How many pto hp is your tractor? Our 85 hp tractor is a good match for the 9 foot 10 inch or however many inch it is. It pulls it fine when the grass is tender. We hook it to a 145 hp tractor when the grass gets dry and tough in the summer.

I will get the tractor to fit the mower. With that amount of acreage, I want to be as efficient as possible (within reason). I was looking at a 85-90 hp tractor as well as a 120 hp. I don't want to pull 2 rigs, but do want to know if there are problems with width from a cutting standpoint.

I cut some very uneven ground with ours with no complaints. I certainly wouldnt want to go smaller. You will be pleased with cutter you mentioned. The 85-90 hp will do fine also. I just use a bigger tractor in the summer because I dont like to slow down a gear. Some people say I cut too fast, so if your not cutting @ 9mph you probaly wont have to slow down when the grass gets dry and tough to cut.

I also looked at an 11' 6" Kuhn pull behind this weekend. Any thoughts on that? Requires less HP, and would get a lot done quickly.
