Saw the grease point in the manual. I do not have a quick hitch.

We disconnected the guys rotary mower, and hooked up the chipper. That was on a Kubota L4310. The chipper seemed to work correctly(I have a 5hp gas version, and have rented big tow behinds...).

Will be hooking it up this afternoon; I'm leaving on the tractor in a few minutes to go help move materials for a kid in our Scout Troop, for his Eagle project.

I do suggest you grease the fittings (not many of them...but you may have to pull a shroud off).

The Crary Bearcat might be different, but the Woods version of this chipper comes with a pretty short PTO driveshaft. With a standard 3PH, I don't think you'll have a problem. But if you have a QH installed or Pat's Easy Change on your lower links; you may need to remove them.

Roy and I are in complete agreement. The condition of the blades is moot if the chipper doesn't function. But since the original owner said he only used it once the chipper should function flawlessly.

If it was used to make sand out of gravel there may be an issue with the blades.:laughing:

Inspect the blades or ask the owner to find out if they are the double sided style. I don't know if the earlier model comes with only one edge. The 70554 has two-sided reversible blades.

Just swapping the inside and outside blades won't make chipping any easier. They need to be turned over.

You can see the original grease in the u-joints. The blades are double sided, and "feel" sharp. Before I hooked it up a little bit ago, I looked and felt in there(being careful not to slice my hand; I did earn my Whittlin Chip...)

It really is super clean. Not even any paint wear.

I did not check the belt; will do that today. The guy said he has had it for like 10 years; will check the belt for age cracks etc.

The manual advises you to swap the inside and outside blades which moves the somewhat sharper outer edges to the center of the cut. Depending on how dull they are it helps some and gives you a little longer life on the blades.
