    Default Bush Hog 3008

Does anyone want to comment on the Bush Hog 3008 rotary cutter? Also, I have a general question about rotary cutters. It is this; when the specifications for a cutter states that it is for tractors with between 45 to 70 HP does that mean that a tractor of 90 HP is too much for the cutter? Bush Hog generally provides a Minimum Tractor HP in their specifications, for example, the Minimum Tractor HP for the Bush Hog 3008 is 50 PTO for the Lift and 40 PTO for the Pull. The specifications for the Bush Hog SQ84T provides a Tractor HP Range of 35 - 50 PTO. Is the inference here that a tractor of say 70 HP PTO is too stong for the SQ84T?

I have one and pull it with a 50 PTO hp tractor and like it but it has one big issue. The out shafts going to the ind. gear boxes have a rubber 6" washer that tears when you hit something. Mine rips when I mow 2-3" trees with it. It is heavy and well built
If you exceed hp ratings by 10-20 hp that is noramlly ok, but more then that you are asking for problems.

I had a bush hog 3008 with a 3 pt and 69 pto HP MF281.It was a fantastic cutter but very heavy. My tractor had a loader which balanced it out, nice on my hilly ground.I sold them when we bought a skid steer and no longer needed a tractor loader.Wish I still had the 3008!

I tend to shy away from multi-spindle, multi-gearbox, multi-shaft, multi-universal joint mowers. More complicated and more to maintain. I like the 290 series with the dual tail-wheel if you can handle it with your tractor, if not, I'd look at the 280 with dual tail-wheel.

I have the 3008 and really like it. I pull it with a MF 2625 (65 hp/55 PTO) and have had no problems - it is a tank. I like the dual spindle arrangement so that it is not out so far behind, and it sticks out enough that you can get close to fences. Don't know why too much HP is a problem if you don't go into something you shouldn't - but would like to hear if so.

I have its bigger cousin, the 3209 which has a 9' cut instead of 8', and 205hp center and 190 outboard gearboxes. The 3008 has a 120hp center and 90hp outboards. Unless you're running more than 120hp PTO, I doubt you will hurt it, and even if you do run more, it has a slip clutch.

These things are nearly indestructible what what I can tell. Mine is used and I just started using it for the first time this season. Mine is lift type, but they all come in lift, semi-lift or pull.

The Bush hog 3008 is at the top of my want list. I want the semi-mount, just not sure if I want the hydraulic offset option. I have both 60hp & 85hp tractors.

Then I like the Rhino TR96 also called Turbo96.

If I were to go single spindle I like the Bush Hog 297 with twin tail wheels.
