Hi all. First post here. Thank you for all the threads on KK Tillers. I lurked quite a bit and did a lot of reading before i bought this beast. Now to the topic at hand.
I found this 6 footer on Craigslist not too far from home. Nice guy on the phone, so i went to look at it. Ended up bringing it home. Older guy, seemed honest. Kept his equipment inside and everything looked well cared for. He bought it when he built his house, tilled his 4 acre of now lawn and now he wants a sprayer. Tines are not even worn.
Get it home, check fluids, grease the hub, hook it up, PTO length is close but cleared, and did a 10' test run with it. I have a JD4600 tractor so was a little worried about the HP but it handled it ok. It did push the tractor quite a bit but it was set at the deepest depth and this was in heavily sodded ground that had never been tilled. But one pass and i was quite pleasantly surprised!
My questions...
Is there any reason to change oil in the gearboxes? Personally i dont think so. Though it has set for 4 years, but the levels were good and there was no evidence of leaks.
How the heck do you get to the grease fittings on the PTO u-joints. I cant get my connector on them from the outside or throuth the access hole in the guard. Do i have to take the guard off? If so, how? I couldnt get the darn thing off.
Lastly, as i mentioned the clearance is close (about 1.5") on the PTO shaft when itsa t the shortest length. Do i need to trim any of just leave it?
Thanks all.
