Tiller KUBOTA tiller model?

I'm looking at a tiller for sale, but from the model# I can't find any info.

the plate is worn can't make out the words for model or serial.
but the stamped numbers are model FM1100S ( the M looks different like it shouldn't be there.)

serial is 1122

they are calling it a bed maker.

want to find out model number so I can get a parts book to change out to tynes if needed.

Also find out if it is a 540 pto. Some older attachments for Kubota run at different pto speeds, also there is no slip clutch.

please help so I can tell if I want to buy this.

Its not a tiller, its a "bed maker". Turning it into a real tiller sounds like a good way to trash some gears.

Thankyou for your reply, It made me looked at the teeth photo so your saying the bedmaker spins a different direction then a tyne tiller?

I've never hear on a bed maker does the ground have to be already tilled before you use this machine?

I've never heard of one either, but those teeth look like they are not made to dig deep and I'm guessing they spin faster. I've never seen a wheel setup like that on a PTO tiller either. I'm guessing it is intended for maybe sod farm surface prep or something like that that with shallow planting.

If you put long tiler tines on it, that would take much more torque to spin, possibly more than the gears can handle. It would be a bit like sticking 60" tall tractor tires on the back of a 2wd pick-up truck. even if the the axle doesn't break, the gearing would be all wrong.

The only thing that might save you in this case is if it was a 1000rpm bed maker, it might work as a 540 rpm tiller, but maybe even not then.

Give all the doubt, plus the work and expense to re-tine it, I'd pass on it or use it as its intended. If you are set on converting it, the first thing to do would be to measure the gear ratio and compare it to a real tiller. To measure the gear ratio, spin one side 1 revolution by hand and see how far the other side makes it. a tiller can spin in either direction.

Good advice.
I guess the next question would be if anyone out there has use a bed maker and do you have to harrow and tiller the ground before using this machine.

Al, you gave up too quick. This might just be a really really worn out tiller. My fatherin law ran his tiller until the teeth were almost gone. Also check out this thread. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/234810-help-my-new-used-tiller.html
I think the tiller you have might be a chinese rice field tiller, do a bit of checking and you might find some info online.

You might want to be careful about old Kubota tillers. I bought one about 15 years ago and found it to be a "gray market" tiller and no info was available at the dealer. After searching thru a lot of manuals, I was able to find tines that work. But the great deal wasn't as good as I thought it was.

Adding to this thought - make sure the PTO rotation is correct for your machine. Some of the older Kubotas (B6000 I think?) have a PTO shaft that rotates in the opposite direction. It's a nice, heavy looking unit.

As you did not respond when i posted yesterday;

1. The tiller is not a bed maker as it has no skirt boards to create a raised bed.

2. it is a stone burier/stone breaking tiller that breaks field stone and then
buries the fine broken rock in the tilled earth behind it.

3. it has a six spline female PTO half .

4. The bearings are metric and easy to find anywhere.

5 The PTO shaft will have to be replaced with the proper replacement shaft
with the shaft guards.

a. The tiller rotor operates in reverse rotation with the rotor operating in reverse when the tractor / prime mover is moving forward.

6. do not give up until the owner puts it on a tractor to run it as the stone breaking tines only operate in the direction of the cutting edge and if by turning the shaft to the left operates the tines to dig with the leading edge you can use it on the current tractors.

AS you are facing the left side of the stone burier it is rotating to the right
(clockwise) when operated at the PTO speed.

7. If all else fails buy a small Caroni tiller from Agrisupply.

EDIT:

Some bed makers are attached directly to large high horsepower ROTOtillers
www.Northwesttiller.com is the best example.

A bed former is used when tillage is complete and the ground has been disc harrowed in the convential manner.

look at www.Buctracto.com to see hiller bedders in use and see how well they perform

Sorry for the late reply. This is my work email and I don't check it from home.

If you stand behind a tractor with a attachment and move to the left side
that is where the 4th photo showing the teeth was taken.

So your saying that this tiller is going to spin clockwise like a flail mower?
Which would mean the fat end of the curved blades would be doing the work.

If the tiller spun counterclockwise ( as in direction of driving tractor foward)
then this would be a regular tiller kicking the dirt out the back. Just this unit has curved teeth installed.

Do I have this correct? You were very helpful when I was fixing a olds Motts flail mower. I hope you can do it again this this item.
