I bought a 10' wheel disc two states away. I think it's a Case IH brand. What's the best way to narrow it to trailer it home? Take off the gangs on one side?

Zebrafive,

Remove the hitch or loosen it and raise it up so it does not extend out to far beyond the width of the trailer. Just in case have a "Wide Load" sign and red flags along. Have the seller load it on the trailer with a FEL. Then reverse the process when you get it to your destination. Don't forget a good set of chains and chain binders for the long haul. Good luck.

I've hauled one lengthwise on the trailer on back roads. Not fun. When I sold it, we unangled the discs, and loaded it cross wise and torched off the hitch. (It had been welded on, should be able to take out bolts)

Going today. I have PBBlaster for the rusty bolts. 5/16" G70 chains and chain binders. lots of wrenchs and a BIG hammer!

Also picking up a Bush Hog 9' rear blade that will not be a problem

Here's how my 13-ft wheel disc was delivered. Hitch was removed, placed sideways on the trailer--the only way to do it legally.

Good luck.

Traveled 500 miles picked up the Bush Hog rear blade, a JD CAT 2 QH and the 10'disc. Ended up unbolting the guides at the outside edge of each disc gang and swinging the rear pair toward the back and the front pair forward. Unhooked the lift cylinder and flipped the transport wheels up out of the way. This was less work than taking off the tongue. I can see that would be the only way with a 13' disc.

I was legal width. Not sure if the tongue hanging off the rear was legal ;)

That works! I've got a similar heavy rear blade, you'll find it pretty handy. I've been removing part of a fence row so I can fit through easier in haying season, can plow right through most of the small trees with the blade and roll the rocks back. I keep the forks on the loader for picking up the trees after plowing them over.

The 2030 had no truble lifting the disc off!
