John Deere 3038e
Anyone have experience with installing a winch on a JD 3038e? It's just purchased and the dealer had had no experience with it.

What kind of winch, Logging winch like a Farmi, or 12V electric winch like on a truck? If the latter I mount mine on a 2 inch receiver plate ($49 on sale at harbor freight) and use a two inch receiver mount on the 3 point. Use it to unstick the tractor during 'hesitations' and to yard logs off the hill. I just hook it up to the battery with alligator clips when I need it. 9000 pound pull is more than suffcient.

Yes, 12V. Just what I needed to know. Thanks!

Just to hedge bets, I always leave the engine running while using the winch. I use the same winch on the pickup both front and back since I have a trailer hitch 2 inch reciever on both ends of the truck.

A cheap source of cable and alligator clips is a $20 buck set of heavy duty jumper cables. Cut off one set of clips (save 'em) and couple the raw ends to the winch cables, insulate the coupling well. That should give you length from the back of the tractor to the battery. You can get very fancy by getting quick couples and running them to the winch, but not really necessary.
