Well, there's one thing you have to be sure of here. Is your tiller a reverse tine tiller, meaning it goes backwards to make entering the ground less of an effort? These tillers have been optional for many brands for some years now. The only other answer is that your tractors PTO is going in reverse. Gears being what they are don't reverse themselves on their own so I would be willing to bet you have a reverse tine tiller there. What direction are your cutting knives going? What I mean to say is which way are the cutting edges facing? Heck most of us would have to pay the extra $'s for that type of tiller hope you got one for a great price. Bigguy

bluesky,

Hopefully BigGuy has it right and you have a reverse cut tiller. As he said, that's an option for some manufacturers.

On the other hand, I thought I remember reading somewhere that some of the early Kubota had a PTO that rotated opposite to today's standard. If that's is in fact true, you might have a tiller designed for one of those machines.

If that's the case, I think I also remember someone saying that a reversing kit or adapter is available.

I think Bigguy is correct. The problem is that the adaptors are no longer made and the tractor part yards have standing orders for ones when they do show up.

The company that used to make them, at the end, made them only after receiving an order. They no longer have plans or parts available.

Some of the early gray market tractors and implements had the PTO turing backwards from the american standard.

The older Kubota tractors such as the B6000 had a counterclockwise PTO and as a result the implements that were designed to attach to them required a CCW PTO. There are PTO resersers available. Your local Kubota dealer probably has one or can get one for you. If not, a drivetrain shop can fix you up. I don't know if Kubota made a strictly reverse cut tiller but some of the current models such at the FL1271RC have a reversing gear box so that you can choose the direction of cut.

I have a similar problem to yours. I just bought a Kubota K420 tiller, which is an older model but it requires a CW PTO. I am adapting it to work with my F2400 which has a CCW PTO that turns at 1100 RPM in low range. I will put a reversing speed reducer on the tiller to both change the direction and reduce the shaft velocity. My Kubota dealer has these in stock for about $US40.

To change the direction all you have to do is disassemble the gearbox and change the drive side of the pinion. If the pinion gear is replaceable then you likely can move the pinion to the other side of the crown gear and this will change the output direction. You'll just have to dig into the gearbox to see if this is possible.
