I have a John Deere 410 backhoe. It has a standard bucket on the front and of course the backhoe on the back. I want to make it more 'all around' useful and am considering adding a thumb to the backhoe.

I have also gotten pretty spoiled with the usefulness of my tractor, as far as being able to use multiple implements with it, and now I'd like to do that with the larger backhoe as well, for things that are too big for my current tractor.

Is it possible to convert my backhoe front end loader to a skidsteer mount type bracket, and run skidsteer type implements off the front of it?

For instance, if I found a good deal on a used hydraulic brush mower, a large hydraulic snowblower, or could rent a mulcher from someone, could I use those on my backhoe?

My hydraulics are closed center and rated at 30gpm at 2500psi. Would I be able to run skidsteer type implements with the proper hydraulic connections?

My lift capacity is 5300 lbs. I really like the idea of putting a mulcher on the front of it but that is probably asking a bit much.

Where there is a will there is a way. The only thing i would be worried about is your remotes on the backhoe. They are always closed, i dont see how your going to make a complete circuit with out holding them open all the time.

What the real issue is with what you want to do isn't whether the machine can handle the attachments , it's can the attachments handle the machine !

I'm going to take a wag that this machine weighs ~16,000 pounds, thats a good 5000 more than the big skid steers and your lift capacity at 5300 gives you about a ton over the big skids capabilities. So you don't need a physics degree to see the 410 can push, pull and pry much harder than any skid steer. I would say that your machine could overcome the design strength of the skid steer quick attach system. Thats why they use a different stronger quick coupler for front ends of full size backhoes, typically either a "JRB" or "ACS" style.

I believe that the SSQA would be fine for the attachments you mention and anything else that isn't "ground engaging", where the problem lies is that you would have to make your factory bucket SS quick attach and that is where you could destroy the coupler.

Now could a really good weld/fab shop design and build a coupler stout enough to handle your bucket in ground engaging use and still fit the SSQA system? Probably so , but not cheap or easy.

30GPM should drive any attachment you wish, given proper selection. A universal SSL attachment device is barely (maybe not quite) adequate for the stresses a 410 can dish out.

I'll look into the adapter mentioned. Of course, that would mean I'd need to put on a quick connect hitch on the FEL anyways, which of course could start getting pricey.
The machine weighs right at 15,000 so you were pretty much right on with that.

The main thing I would like to do is use it for a large snowblower, so if I had the adapter mentioned then that might work really well. The less likely thing is the mulcher, I doubt I could do this, but of I could rent one from somewhere to use on the backhoe that would be pretty fun to clear some land with, however it may be more of a "neat idea" rather than actually practical :)

I would also like to use a rock bucket with it but I could probably get one that was made for my 410 to begin with?

Are there "attachments" made for full size backhoes?

Ideally, I want a FEL mount snowblowers for the winters in Nh. I have a cab on the 410 but not my tractor.

I see so many attachments for skidsteers that I could really use on my land, but I need the hoe on the 410 so it isn't really an option to sell it for a skidsteer. I really like having that extra power when my tractor just doesn't have enough! Although, even the 410 seems like a little toy compared to the old dynahoe we used to have, that thing was a beast!

Also meant to ask, are most hydro powered skidsteers meant to be used with more than the 2500psi I have? I know the volume is sufficient but not sure about pressure?

Your system pressure may be a couple hundred PSI lower than SOME newer SSL's, but in general you will be fine.
