Does anyone know where I can get a 6' hardened blade for a landplane I am building? I just need the hardened edge, not the whole plade. I figure about 6' x 4" would be about right.

I have purchased heat-treated steel strips 2"x 4' from a local welder. That might be possible where you live. Easy to weld & flame-cut, nasty to drill.

I think you can buy replacement cutting edges for box blades.

Sounds like you are looking for a loader bucket edge, common to find at most steel suppliers or welding shops or better ag supply places. Comes in bolt on or weld on?

Scmism hit it right on the head. I always forget to check Agri-supply because there isn't one around here. Interesting thet their 6' blade is cheaper than their 5 1/2 foot blade. Thanks guys.

Price can depend on lots of things other than the length. I noticed the discription for the Agri Supply blade was non existent. The blades I have purchased for my landplane builds are 6" wide x 5/8" thick typically they run around $25-30 per foot.

The last blade 8 ft came from my Deere dealer $204 IIRC. The prior two I bought from the Cat dealer.

As I understand it, welding and flame cutting hardened steel requires special procedures (pre and post heat, etc.) or else you will damage the metal, perhaps making it brittle. I am no expert in this area, however.

Stop by your town garage and see if they have any used grader blades laying around.Sometimes if we break one side we have to change both of them and the good one is almost new and it will lay around awhile.Ours are 6' heat treated and would last forever on a land plane. They may even have some new scarifiers and shanks from an old grader they use to own but don't need anymore that you could get.
