I recently bought an old 2 bottom plow.. once I removed some old paint.. I found out it was a McCormic International 520 MoldBoard Plow. I couldn't find much info on it.. but I did find this:

"The farm equipment and truck builder known as International Harvester (IH) had its origins in two companies: McCormic Harvesting Co. and Deering Harvester Co. In 1831 Cyrus H. McCormic developed grain reapers and in that century, the company!s business was farm equipment mechanization. The company began manufacturing tractors in 1906 and International Harvester's first truck appeared in 1907. The widespread use of trucks in World War I and rapid recognition of the benefits of trucks made International a leader in the truck industry"

Any ideas? Am I on the right track? This plow is built tuff.. using 1 inch & half inch steel bar.. the steel wheel rings like a bell when you tap on it.. the only thing missing is the sod cutters and a couple of bolts. I bought the plow and a working JD 290 corn planter(still had sweetcorn seed in the hoppers) both for $500.. I knew the planter was worth it alone.. and I figured.. if I couldn't pull the plow.. I could always use it for an anvil. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Thankyou! Ken

You asked for ideas, but I missed the question. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif McCormic, International, Farmall, International Harvestor Co, Case-International, now Case. Been around forever in the farm world.

Lots of folks plow without the coulters, depends on your soil & trash conditions.

Sorry Rambler.. ideas of where to find more information on the plow.. about the manufacturer(s)... were the companies combined then.. or working together. I did see a McCormic International Tractor on a "Online" Tractor Museum from 1964.. couldn't find any info on implements. Thankyou! Ken

Ken - I'm not sure Muhammad has enough bandwidth for the whole story so......International Harvester was the formation of a number of companies in 1903. All the names had recognition in the ag market so IH used the names on different products. McCormick, Deering, Farmall, International, International Harvester, etc. were used in different combination over the years. I believe IH was the 3rd largest company in the world at one time. IH went away in 1985. Go to your local Case/IH dealer, call the folks at www.cngco.com, or try www.binderbooks.com for more info on the company and your "new" plow. Chuck
