Second the Timber's sentiment. I think it is potentially useful tool for removing stumps. At least you see what are going rip as opposed to pulling. Use common sense.

What kind of sissy tractors are you guys buying that you worried about your Fell comming apart, I have dug 5' holes, plowed snow for years, tumbled boulders I couldn't lift. I hardly think a ratchet rake could do any damage to my loader. What exactly do you use your loader for if your afraid to use it to push into a pile of dirt

+1 Over 100+ hours of pushing trees over digging out stumps digging concrete pads breaking up concrete hauling logs trees and anything else. No damage, nothing broken and just a few loose mount bolts at first. Anything can be broken if you don't use common sence. CJ

While i dont think its going to destroy your bucket.. I do have to wonder about its usefulness. Seems ridiculously slow to dig a trench..

Yeah i would choose a different tool to dig a 300 ft trench but to dig a short trench it would be faster to use something like this implement or the similar QuickSpade than to mount a backhoe or use a plow. More control near buildings etc too.

I'd put this into the convenient but hardly critical implement category.

I dont know about whats quicker when all is taken into consideration. I can mount my backhoe in under 5 mins and it would be a lot faster digging then this attachment. I regularly dig right up to buildings too.. just have to practice and even idle down when necessary.

Now for somebody that doesnt have a backhoe, i can see it being handy.

I wish it took me 5 minutes to dismount an implement then reposition and mount my BH. Start to finish, half an hour is closer to my experience unfortunately.

In reality though, the digging of trenches is something that is rarely spontaneous and typically can be planned for at a convenient time when the BH is already mounted.

IT. I should have clarified, that 5 min is starting with no attachment on the back.

Ive also changed the cotterpins on the 3pt to hitchpins. It tales me no time to remove the 3pt arms (i dont completely disassemble them either, just remove the centre spacer, pull the connecting rod out and pull the pins off the lift arms)

I agree with your comment Timber! My question is, What difference is it to cut with the cutting edge of a bucket or below the cutting edge? Lets get real people . . .John

Read the specs sheet on it. The ripper is held on by 2 bolts and only rips 8 inches deep.

The ad states The Rip and Dig can also dig shallow trenches up to a depth of 12"-24" deep (depending on the size of the machine and the hardness of the soil). So I am wondering where are you getting the 8" depth? I don't have a back hoe and I thought of this for digging irrigation ditches which will only have to be six inches anyway and I think anything deeper I would have problems because of the caliche here.
