middle buster for breaking field with 8n?

Looking to get the garden growing. Have an 8n, and an ancient set of discs (single point tow behind) that I cannot seem to get enough wieght on to break sod with.

Looking at the middle buster TSC has, which costs about 1/4 the price of a single bottom moldboard..

how effective would this be, I know it would take more passes, but would it serve to break things up enough for the disc to work well?

Middle buster will do the job. I'm guessing it'll be in the $150 range? Consider looking at a used single bottom moldboard. It will be much better constructed, and I think you'll get a better end result. I bought my used 3-bottom plow this spring for $350, so I think a single should be pretty inexpensive.

Bottom line, either type plow will get the job done .

Plenty of old iron laying around for sale,wouldnt see buying new for one time job. Can search craigslist or local implement dealers. If your close I will let you even borrow my middle buster...

Plows are hit or miss to find around here. When a good deal comes up it can be gone in a day. Take a look on Craigs list and see if anything is listed and if so try to see if they are selling quickly. If they are hard to get you probably are better off not waiting if your garden is something you want to do this year.
