Tractor
Kubota BX2660
All the overseeders I've found so far have a 6'+ width and are way too heavy for a sub-compact tractor - does anyone know of a smaller overseeder that would work with something the size of a Kubota BX?

I too have struggled with this. landpride, brillion and john deere appears to be only one with a 48 inch models but it comes with hefty price.

Olathe also made a 48" model. Now made by TORO. There are deals out there, you just have to keep looking. I bought one last fall, not pretty from setting outside, but hardly used. Local H.S. used it to reseed the football field for several years, until they replaced it with astro turf.

Bought it for $100.00, from a guy who bought it at the schools surplus auction. Cutters, disc's, seed box, drop tubes are perfect. Just need to replace about 18" of #40 roller chain, and it should functrion.

Not going to worry about paint, until I see how it works. Hope to reseed some pasture/paddocks later this fall.

I rented a 48'' Landpride overseeder for use on the back of the BX2200 that I use to have. It really max-out that machine , power wise and weight wise. A bearing seized on the overseeding shortly after I got started and I ended up with a sheared off input shaft inside my Kubota.
I ended up buying a used Ryan-Mataway walk behind overseeder. Those 3 point units are hard to find and expensive (I believe something like over 7k new). The Ryan walk-behinds (almost 5k new) are eaiser to find and can be had for $1000 or less used.

Wow, yeah, just looked at the OS1548 and A) it is almost 1300 lbs which would be a real struggle for the BX, and B) the USED prices are around $5,000! I might have to settle for a nice core aerator and a large broadcast spreader... (I live in the middle of nowhere now, so the likelyhood of finding one to rent is VERY low.)

How much seeding are you planning on doing? The Ryan walk-behinds units available at the rental yards are of the same quality as the OS1548s, just in a smaller package.Did that OS1548 you looked at have the culdi-packer on back, that could explain the extra weight.

It's about 3 acres right now, and will be expanding in the next couple of years as I knock down the overgrown field around me. At this point I'm considering the APS1548 since it is only 700 lbs and is significantly cheaper. It is intended to be used for seeding in plain dirt but it can be used in an overseeding capacity as well. (The front rollers will scuff up the ground, but won't cut slits like an overseeder does.)
