Not knowing anything about Wood Chippers for PTO, I bought this one.

WoodMaxx 8" PTO Chipper - Mechanical Auto-Feed $2139.00

It is awesome. I have put 6 inch logs thru it with no problems.
With the wide shoot at opening, it is easy to force lots of limbs thru the chipper.
So far, I have used it about 30 hours, it has work flawlessly.

The WoodMaxx's are awesome. They're just as good as the Wallensteins, and they are far less expensive. Plus, the WoodMaxx chippers have American made parts on them.

Hi all

I'm also thinking about wood chippers. One question ... If you have a gas or diesel powered one the emergency off button would be within reach or at least just a few steps away. With a PTO one (and with a cabin tractor, which I have) the only way to turn it off would be to get back into the cabin and hit the PTO disengage button. My tractor does not have anything at the rear outside to kill the PTO. Is this so ? For those that have PTO driven wood chippers on cabin tractors is that the way to stop the chipper?

Mike,
You could add a remote panic stop button to the chipper chute that is in series with your pto switch or ignition switch if you feel the need. Seems like it would be a good idea on a cab tractor. Some of the better chippers have a panic bar that goes across the chipper inlet that might be retrofitted to your needs.

There is no "emergency cutoff" on my Wallenstein BX42 PTO chipper, which does NOT have hydraulic feed. However, the feed shoot is located low and is more horizontal than vertical, deep, and shielded with neoprene flaps so one would have to be CARELESS to get a body part in there. At age 64 I still have all my body parts, so I consider myself a safe operator. I have never been concerned with not having an "emergency cutoff" with the Wallenstein BX42/62 design. As to other chippers....you would have to evaluate safety features of each design individually. You cannot generalize.

To me, working around these smaller chippers is fairly safe as long as you're wearing the proper clothing and gear. I'm more concerned about the PTO driveshaft and I give the wide berth.

I was looking at their website when I was in the market for a chipper a while ago...that second video on their home page (the one where the young lady is talking about the chipper, and it has an upside-down in feed hopper, and the discharge chute is on wrong....) along with all the negative reviews scared me right off. Plus those pictures of their backhoes are taken in China...(note the Asian man operating it, and the buildings/burning garbage in the background). Jeez. I didn't feel confident about buying from a company who paid so little attention to detail.

I suggest doing some searching here on TBN for feedback from people who've ordered from Liberty before giving them a credit card number.
