I recently bought the plow shown in the picture. I am hoping someone may recognize this plow, and can provide more information on the make and model of the plow. There are some splotches of either light green or blue paint that still shows on the plow. It is hard for me to differentiate which color...it is faded Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

I don't know, but I would inspect the frog for casting marks. Some of the old manufacturers also made their old fasteners, so check for idenification marks on head bolts.

Like ISZ said, check bolts, etc. Basically, you need to look everywhere: coulter hubs, plow feet, etc.

Just an observation and a wild guess, but it looks like the 3-pt hitch might have been added. That would complicate identification.

Bigfoot62 you have very good observation skills. I thought the plow looked a little different in that the three point hitch seemed to be a little bit more to the front than on some I have seen. That was one reason I posted this here. Since the plow was all rusted over I did not pick up on what all you saw, until I went and looked closer. Whoever made the conversion seems to have done a decent job. The welds seem to be good, and the metal is thick. I am still wondering what this really was before it was converted to what it is now.

I am going to take it out Monday and see how well it will plow. If it works OK I will probably keep it. If not, the 85 year old man I bought it from is from the old school where your word, and a hand shake mean something. He told me that if I found anything about it that I did not like to bring it back and he would refund my money.

Sassi hope plow works out for you. Agree with you on Bigfoot62 eagle/eye skills.
You don't state what you paid for it nore is it anyone's business, but if it were me and You didn't give too much for it $$$ I would keep it. I wouldn't have the heart to return it to the 85 years young gentleman. Heck them coulterassembly alone otta be worth $80 easily for pair. Here's pics of a coulter assembly I had to buy and paid $130 including delivery.
Just a thought !

Bullbreaker normally I would agree with you, however this is a very unique older gentleman. I won't go into details, but lets just say that I do not think money is an issue with him. He is now retired and likes to have fun on his farm. He has a long row of old unique farm implements parked along the road in front of his workshop, that he likes to work on in his spare time. When he told me that if I did not like the bottom plow to bring it back, that is exactly what he meant. In fact I honestly think that should I be dissatisfied with the bottom plow and failed to let him know of my dissatisfaction, and he found out about it I would really catch the devil from him! Besides we are only talking about $250 here anyways.

I spent a good bit of time on Monday cleaning off the rust and crud on the plow. I found under the rust a good bit of green paint. I also found some numbers on the coulter assembly but no numbers on any part of the plow itself. I then started looking through my paint cabinet, and I found some primer and a quart of JD green enamel paint. I spent some time on Tuesday morning painting the old plow. It looks a lot better. I am going to take it out Thursday or Friday morning while it is still hooked to my tractor and see how it plows. The coulter on the left side when looking at it in the picture from behind is canted inward and inch or more out of line. I think the square bolt requires a wrench that is an inch and an eighth in size. I do not have an open end wrench larger than one inch so I guess I will have to find one. I am hoping that I can loosen the coulter assembly enough to realign the angle of the coulter.

It's kind of hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like the lift pins on that 3ph are straight across, on the same plane. If they are, you may have trouble getting the plow set correctly. Most moldboard plows have the right hand pin lower than the left hand pin so that when your tractor wheel is down in the furrow, the plow still sits level.

Hope this helps,
Mark

I haven't a clue as to the make of the plow, but it's not a JD and the first thought that came to mind when I saw the green in the first photo was, it's maybe Oliver? I would say that's a good price for the plow and would love to see some pics of how it works out for you.
