Default Older Brillion seeder price check

I came across an older 5 foot Brillion seeder today. It appears to be complete except for the chain for the rear hopper and not in too bad of shape. Any idea what it's worth? Anything to look out for? He's asking $800 but I didn't negotiate. What do you guys think?

$800 is a really low price for a Brillion. They usually go for several thousand bucks on eBay. Is it a landscape seeder or a hayfield seeder? The model number will answer that question.

What's the difference between the two? I assume it's a hay field seeder because it's on a farm. It has two seed bins. The farmer told me the front bin was for finer seed such as grass and the rear bin was for courser feed such as oats. It fairly rusted up but structurally it's sound. I'll see if I can get a serial number.Anything else to look for?

    Thanks, Chris

Maybe 6-8 yrs. ago I passed on one, a 6' Brillion SureStand for $250. It was maybe mid 1950's and the boxes had bends some rust, missing chain. Now I wish I'd run it up to at least $300. It had the double sprocket type packers. I just seen a landscapper fellow that had just picked up a 6' almost new Great Plains seeder, he said he gave $4000 for it. I've been wanting to find a 6' Over seeder. The kind with coulters on the front to open up the ground. Nothing shows up here locally though. bjr

Landscape seeders are optimized for small size grass seed. Hayfield seeder handles small seeds (like alfalfa) as well as larger size seeds (like oats).

Thanks for the clarification. I'll stop over to the farm this week and get the serial number. Are parts still available for the older models?
