Just got these (new to me) safety lock chain grab hooks. As you see in one of the pix a Made in USA product.

Came from Gemplers at this link- Twist Lock Grab Hooks - GEMPLER'S

That looks much better than the 2 flimsy-looking types I've seen around here.

I have only seen SLIP hooks with a retainer which bends and distorts very easy.

This is the first time I've seen a GRAB hook. I forgot to mention in my first post that although the spring looks lightweight some effort is required to move it. For example my wife can't push the pin in far enough to turn latch. Also they use 17mm nyloc nuts to retain the spring and the pin.

Some look like they would work well in a clean, easily accessible environment, with both hands available to use them. I want a one-handed version I can drag around and leave in a pile. The common slip hook safety latch doesn't last long for me. I want something tougher.

This is one type, with a sliding channel held with a spring pin. The channel is awkward with gloves, and should be heavier material.

This is the other one that looks too easy for an off-line pull to bend.

I haven't seen these three styles. The bottom two look like you could use them with one hand.

You can find all these and maybe more with a Google search for "locking grab hook" and "latching grab hook"

Ditto on the awkward part. My JD HX-10 pull type mower came with a safety chain and one of these type hooks. I never used the safety chain so I took it off the mower and I didn't like the latch on the hook so I took the latch part off and now it's just a spare short high grade chain with a regular grab hook on one end and a loop ring on the other end. Probably added over $100 to the cost of the mower. The safety chain was about as useless and bothersome as the pto shaft covers that come on new implements.

The flap style has been around for years. The first thing I do is remove the flap. Its like a government related answer to hooks. When I get too lazy to use a regular chain hook the sign comes out for the estate sale. I sure hope they wasted money for a patent.
