I just got a 9 ft sickle mower. Ive used a 7 ft for the last 2 years but its very old. The 9 ft is quite new its a case 1100.1989 is the year. Is there anything i should watchout for that might be different from my old 7 ft. I plan to do the ditches this year with it. Also for longterm storage what is best for the blade. Up or on ground or some sort of support. Any advise is great. Thanks.

Hope you like the new mower.
I leave mine with the blade down and on a couple blocks. My sicklebar is the most combersom impliment I have to hook up to so I make sure I leave it in a position that makes it easyest to hook up to. Thats all I worry about.

If the sicklebar lays back over the unit for transport (i.e. not vertical) you may want to put a piece of rope on the end and tie it down to the mower when transporting. While not generally an issue on 7' mowers, the 9' long sicklebar can bounce enough to bend it while transporting. Just tie it down lightly and it should eliminate this (if it's vertical during transport, disregard this.)

As for storing, just do what ever is convenient so long as it isn't directly down on the ground which will promote rusting.
