Front-End Loader installation cost for loader

so i have a mahindra 5500 2wd. i just found a mahindra ML260 loader for it. i am wondering how much i should expect to spend to have it installed. prior to finding this one, i contacted my local mahindra dealer who quoted me $700 installation cost if i bought a new one. is it just me or does that sound insane? this cannot be a two day project. if it cost that much, i think im gonna learn how to install a loader myself. haha.

You should do the install yourself. You will want to understand the basics of how your tractor's hydraulic system works , if you don't already. Once you understand the additional plumbing you'll need to install, its really just a matter of bolting on the mounting brackets and torquing them to spec.

BTW, do you already have the hydraulic hoses;etc, or was the price of the hydraulic hoses;etc included with your dealer's installation price? Bet wishes.

I agree with Ductape, I am all for more Americans sharpening their mechanical abilities.

i would love to do it myself. and i am actually a mechanic by trade. but i have no experience with hydraulics. and there is nothing i hate worse than messing something up and end up worse off than i started (just dont have that kind of time. literally) the brackets and such would be a snap.
as for the hoses and such, im not 100% sure what i have to work with on the tractor end. (the tractor is in missouri, and i am in south america at the moment). i dont know how much of that prep is standard. the loader was a take-off of a new tractor and was never used. supposed to me 100% complete.
as for that dealers price, he didnt ask for any specifics at all. i just told him the model i had.

Having installed hundreds of loaders on Kubota tractors it would take typically no more than 5 hours, that's from loader in a crate to completed assembly and cleaned up. I can't imagine a Mahindra would be much different. If you were bringing me a third party take off I would definitely quote you extra because you never know what you are getting.

We have a fantastic Hydraulics Forum here with many folks to help you. If you have the time and are willing to learn, the hydraulics are actually very simple once you have the basics down. I think your hardest part of the install will be finding the correct routing for your hoses. YOU CAN do it.

update: the guys i got the loader from qouted me $500 for the install. i think it will be money well spent. and rest assured i will be watching very closely durring the process for my future reference. with the money i am saving on the loader, i have a little room to work. plus i am having them add a rear remote cylinder and grill guard as well (not included in the above price). in the end i will be sitting very nicely on total cost invested for the tractor. im a happy camper i'll get a picture uploaded when its all done.

$500 is very reasonable to install a loader of that size - quite a lot bigger and more involved than the Koyker installation described in the link above. Before you get to the hydraulics, the various brackets need to all play nice - which they sometimes don't do.
