Anyone using a 3 pt hitch mount spreader? Most all of the pull-behind spreaders I see are of really poor quality,...and they appear to be difficult to control from the saddle. I am looking at an AGREX XA150, they appear to be of the best quality with a sealed gear box drive,...etc, but I am concerned it might be too large for my BX2360. What are you folks using?

Welcome to the forum. I dream of one day having a land pride fsp 500 for my bx. The land pride only takes 15hp. The land pride I am talking about is comparable to the agrex you are looking at. I think a BX should handle it you will need suitcase weights if you don't have a loader. Landpride has a pull type also. I would prefer a 3ph over a pull type because it would be easier to to turn around and the pull type looks top heavy to me. Keep in mind that you do not have to load the spreader to capacity either you could just put in 100-150lbs at a time too.

I've used a Baltic and it works great. I can't imagine any tractor lacking HP for one. I would guess its a weight issue where they talk HP. Only get one if you have LOTS to sow. I found it very good for larger areas but too much trouble to hook up for garden sized plots. I just sow them by hand. But for a big spread you can't beat them.

Wouldn't it be handy to fertilize the yard especially on a scut?

That XA150 would be perfect behind your BX. I think a 3pt spreader is just easier....you don't have to worry when backing up and you don't have 2 more tires to maintain. Keep that spreader clean, greased and sheltered and it'll last a lifetime!

(going to get the attaching tph parts powder coated for winter use. when i get the rest of my yard in shape . . . i'll use it to spread fertilizers, etc.
don't think it availiable anymore . . . am responding to have you check out the "HERD." line. they make a 3ph model . . . it's good and more reasonable priced

I have a couple of pull behinds one being a drop seeder with aerator spikes fair to middlin imo good for seeding next to areas where I need to hold a definative line. The small tow behind broadcast spreader is small cheaply made but okay for lawn areas with a spread of about 15'. The larger 3PH spreader broadcast seeds about 30 ft wide and heavy fertilzers such as Ironite about 50 ft wide. These larger 3PH spin spreaders are fairly light so you should be able to put 200 lbs on it and handle it well with the BX. I used it about two weeks ago behind my x749 with good results. Mine is a Turbo Spin 450 and I bought it to use with the larger tractors. Frontier has a nice smaller unit just right for a BX if the paint doesn't offend you.

I'm also looking at the XA150 for my BX25. I don't need a large hopper, so it would be a good fit. I have an additional question, though. Can you only use granulated materials (or seeds) in them, or would it also work to spread a dry material like peat moss?

Most all spin spreaders you will see are intended for granular materials. For peat moss, top dressing and other similar amendments a manure spreader works well.
