Default Anyone here own a Maschio 3 pt tiller?

I have a six ft Maschio "H" 3 pt chain drive rototiller and can't figure out how to check the level of the gear oil in the side chain unit. The owner's manual makes no mention of how to check it, only that you are supposed to do so. There is an "oil level" indicator on the side of the cover but no mention of how to know the oil is at that level. Any advice appreciated.

You look there at the "window" on the side. If you can't see oil your supposed to add some till you do.

All you do is open the level plug and if oil flows out it is up to the level required if the oil level indicator is the same as on my tiller (different make)

I don't see any window. Where would this be or is that model different from mine?

That's the problem...there is no oil level plug. Just a drain plug and a fill plug. No oil level plug.
I know what you are speaking of but this tiller has no oil level plug I can find.

My BEFCO tiller was the same, no level plug on the chain case. I drilled and tapped a small hole in the chain case and made my own level plug.

    Well, I know the answer.
I called Maschio this morning and was quite surprised. He said to get a thin stick, (yup, a thin stick) and dip into the fill hole on top to measure the amount of oil in the side gearcase. Typical Italian, which I love. The answer is to get a thin stick or piece of wire and stick into the fill hole to determine how much oil is in the tiller. Wow, so easy.
It's nice to know in this era of talking cars and safety protections against everything, the Italians still figure our head is more than a hat rack. I'm OK with the answer.

When I had my new tiller delivered in 09 the oil was so clean I wasn't sure if I could determine if it was showing in the window or not. My brother found a small dowel rod for model building and stuck it throught the top fill as you mention. Kind of embarrasing at the time but a good approach none the less.
