I read all the issues here, and elsewhere with Liberty Chippers. Some had good stories to tell, most had trouble. Most stories were at least several years old. So I called Liberty and had a frank discussion with a sales rep. He allayed my concerns and I ordered.

The promised delivery passed by. No word. I called. Rep didn't know. Call "shipping Dept in a few hours". I called again - they would call back. No reply. I emailed the original salesman - he promised to talk to Shipping. A day later, Shipping manager called. My unit had missed the shipment out - would be 2 more weeks.

2 more weeks go by - nothing. I called/emailed/waited. Talked to the general manager. He said he'd get back to me. A day later he offers to upsize the model for $300 more, and ship it that day. I said NO THANKS. he'll get back to me. A couple of days later I'm given a new shipment date, more than a month out!

By this point, it's clear I'm neck-deep in the same crap that previous buyers had warned me about. I called and emailed to cancel the order. The general manager gets on me again about the bigger model. I said my tractor wouldn't handle it. Next, he wants details on my tractor! I insisted on the refund.

2 more days go by - no refund. So I call AmEx (the card I paid with) and they gave me an inside number to call. I got through and asked for a refund. In 5 days, I had my money back.

To prove I am capable of learning a lesson, I then dropped by my local tractor guy and ordered a Wallenstein BXM32. Made right here in Ontario. It arrived in 2 weeks, painted orange to match my tractor! It worked perfectly the first time I ran it, and has continued to operate perfectly for about 6h of use now. It's so much fun to use I'm thinking about cutting down the neighbour's trees and chipping them up.

It was more money than the Liberty unit, but ...

I had a bmx42 and loved it. There are a lot of happy Liberty owners too but I would buy a Wallenstien first.

I'm amazed that liberty stays in business. I have not heard of ONE success story.

Of course he did, he wanted to sell you something. Remember, if a salesmans lips are moving, they are lying.

Do they have a physical address? If so I would be curious to look on Google maps and see what they operate out of. It almost sounds like a home business that orders them from China and if they don't have the model you want in stock then they have to wait for a new shipment. If there's not enough in the shipment that arrives then someone get's the run around or an offer to upsize to a model they have in stock.

It appears to be a warehouse(can't be sure though).
Bing lists 3 other businesses in the same building.

So it sounds like they are several businesses in one. My guess is they buying in bulk from China and selling them here. I see a number of people doing it on ebay. I would guess something like a chipper though isn't going to be a fast mover so they probably only keep one, if any in stock. It's probably not their main business so when things don't go right they don't put much effort into making it right.

Judging by other 'reviews' here on TBN........ I think you are giving them waaaay too much credit.
