Bush hog pull behind info to help me spend my money :)
I found a pull behind brush hog for sale and called about it. The guy doesn't know the model and it isn't readable on the unit. He said its in good condition aside from some rust which is expected. Not sure of the year but it certainly isn't new.
Does anyone know what model this bush hog is?
How much is it worth?
Is it worth me driving 3hrs one way for it?
I want a heavy duty mower as my current one is getting beat up. I have 39 pto hp and this is a 6' mower.
I'd add a hydraulic cylinder to it if I were to buy.
Any thoughts or info for me? Surely one of you guys have had one of these in the past.
He is going to send me more pics tomorrow and said he'd hold it for me if I want it. It's too far away to go "check out" so I would sort of be committed to buying it sight unseen.
.....or should I hold off for something closer?

Looks like a model 307. This one is a 1990 year model.

Had a 7' that i liked very much, don't know the model. It looks in good shape. I like a trailer type better than a 3PH.

305, 306, and 307 are all the same design, but 5, 6, and 7 foot cutters respectivly.
If it is a 6' cutter, then it would indeed be a 306.
I will say though, that the manual for the 305/306 dont show a pull-behind option but the 307 does.
Heres the manuals

http://www.bushhog.com/images/storie...anuals/307.pdf
I will say though that they are a beast of a cutter. Good solid unit with 90HP gearbox. (if 6 footer) And if it is a 7', you are looking at 1700lbs of beast and a 125HP gearbox.
Probabally worth the asking price, but I would want to lay eyes on it first and check u-joints and stumpjumper. It does look like the blades have made contact with the underside, so I would look and see if the pan is tight underneath, or if it is just blade pivots wore out. Cause there can be a huge difference $$$ in fixing. Hopefully its just the blades or blade-bolts wore out, cause thats cheap.
I gave $200 for my 306, but I "stole" it. But it did have a gouge in the deck that needed fixed and was a but rusty-er.".........there is only one way to find out."

Sounds like it might be a 306 then? What other questions should I ask him and what are some things to look out for?

Re: Bush hog pull behind info to help me spend my money :)
I'd have to go look at the tag on ours - a 7' same design - I'm guessing Dad bought it new in the 1960's. Very rugged - always pulled it with a Super H. Notice the wheels are behind it, by reversing the axle framework they can be placed on the outside of the machine about midway back which changes the characteristics considerably although you can't get as close to things. Don't know without looking but I bet yours is a 306??? Make sure the blade bolts are not worn as this will cause the blades to hit the deck.

Factor in your time and fuel. I made a 10 hour round trip when I bought my Bush Hog 297, but the price and condition made it worth it.

Re: Bush hog pull behind info to help me spend my money :)
I guess my question would be....are you really wanting a pull-type??? Or is this just a compromise because you cannot find a good used HD 6' 3PH type???
Too bad you arent any closer to me. Their is a 306 3PH type on c-list for $600 right now. (and now its not mine) but it looks pretty good though.
