I bought a used one at auction and want to rebuild/repair the impeller. Looks like they used it to throw gravel and rocks.

Anybody out there know how to get the pto drive shaft off? I already removed the bolt and the two allen screws, but it won't budge. Between that and the tractor is an orange ring that also had an allen set screw.

Are there any other tips to completely take this apart? I know I have to remove the auger to get to the impeller.

Figure I'll give everything a sandblast/wire wheel and repaint too. That sure helped with my loader and rear blade, snow didn't stick to the fresh gloss paint last winter. Also going to try and mechanize the chute rotation and chute angle while I'm at it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Serial Number is 000135, so this must be a 1984 model.

Looking at the pics, I'd say the yoke is rusted onto the input shaft. If the set screws are out, I'd either try a puller (if there is a way to get one on there), or if you can, get the end of a pry bar behind it. Spray plenty of penetrating oil on it first though. I assume there is either a key in there, or it is splined so it will need to come straight off.

Did not see where you disassembled the main rotar. I assume there must be a bearing on the forward shaft. Paint is nice but I like to make sure rust and water hasn't taken out the rotating assembly.

Never got the impeller off, only the PTO shaft end. That thing was REALLY STUCK on there, and I did not want to mess with it (i.e. torch it off) if nothing was wrong with it. I talked to the manufacturer, and they confirmed it was simply keyed on, but agreed to not burn it off until there was a reason to. I soaked it for at least a week, beat on it, tried a puller, slide hammer, all to no avail.

How about using a cut-off blade on a die grinder or a 4 1/2 angle grinder to cut pto yoke off?

Not expensive to replace and will save you time (and probably busting your knuckles)

Doesn't look like a puller would work

Want to try and avoid the cut off blade, if at all possible. Don't want to have to buy/build a new yoke or pto shaft.

Have it soaking in penetrating oil now for several days.

PB Penetrating Oil, a much bigger hammer, a pry bar and 2x4 block did the trick. Got the pto drive off. There is a ring below that, which is my next target. Soaking it overnight in PB. After that I think it will come completely apart.

To fix the major gap between the impeller blades and the walls I have three options: 1) fabricate and weld on new impeller blades, 2) fabricate metal extensions and weld to the existing blades or 3) use tire sidewalls to fill the gap with rubber bolted to the existing impellers.

Anybody do something similar? Recommendations?

Thanks.
