Rotary Cutter Cheetah gear box

I have a cheetah gear box on my bush hog and it does not have a hole in the shaft for a shear bolt, the drive line has a push pin yolk just like tractor end. Will this damage tractor or bush hog if I hit a stump?

I am afraid it will. You should get a new tractor to gear box link with either a shear pin or a slip clutch.

I have seen some older bush hogs with the shear bolt underneath the housing with the blade assembly. It's a pita to replace but I've never seen one without some type of safety device either bolt or clutch.

OK guys let me start over the gear box has a splined shaft and I did find a hole it was covered with grease it is a small hole about 5/16. I don't know a lot about bush hogs but to me a splined shaft would do no good with shear bolt , I assume that hole is to keep drive line from coming off if the yoke doesn't have a push pin. Could you explain this to me. thanks

Kenny, the spline shaft on the gear box will not be where the shear bolt would be. The shear bolt will be between the part coming from the tractor and the part that slips over the splines....the idea is for the tractor to keep on turning at the pto and the shaft coming off the tractor's pto will continue to turn, but since the bolt has sheared, the gear box will not be turning until you replace the bolt. Is that understandable to you? It's kind of hard to put into words.

If you can open the link, you will see that the part that slides over the gearbox splines is at the bottom, just up from that you will see the shear bolt running in line with the axis of the part and then up from that is the part that connects to the u joint. Do you see and understand this??
