Hi. I have a land pride RCR1860 which has worked well for 3 years. Now I got a bigger tractor 70 HP and would like to trade up to the RCR 2672. Anyone have experience with that series?
Anyway driving home yesterday someone had a brand new 2008? Jd mx6 which I bought on the spur of the moment (before reading about their problems here).
Now I am wondering if I should just use it to cut my brush or try to trade that in for the considerably more expensive land pride.
Any advice appreciated?
Is there a website that lists the bad gear case serial numbers? It says china on it and the flyer that came with it says 54 HP 61 max. No 5 year warranty sticker on the mx6 mower.

Thanks!

I am finishing up my third summer using a Land Pride RCR2672. I have the chain shields front and back. I cut everything from grass to heavy brush and have exceeded the 3" cutter recommendations a few times; got really noisy, but the cutter hasn't skipped a beat. I run mine with my L5740 and previously a L5030 as we have a 10' cutter on our M8540. rjkobbeman runs one on his M8540, he hasn't posted in quite a while though. There are others, I just can't recall their names.

I would not use the mx6 unless your planning on cutting overgrown grass with it. I would go with a true medium duty cutter like TripleR mentioned. You can also look at Brown, Bush Hog, Rhino, Woods and I'm sure some others. Just remember that they all have light duty mowers, you'll want to stay away from the light duty lines. Learn from my mistake and avoid tearing up a light duty mower. Go with something with a 90+ hp gear box and over 1,000 lbs.

Found out my MX6 was designed for red clover and Panses. the 775 for shaft or 1200 for j.d. to repair
and after 2010 before got around to giving a warrenty.
China grear box also.
Have 1 part b/o in installing a Bushhog gear box to replace the cheap metal used in thej.d. gear box shaft.

I was under the impression that the early MX6 with the gear box and shaft from Spain was the culprit. I would be interested in knowing which one has the problematic shaft, the ones with China gearbox or Spanish gear box?

Just got off my Kubota GL5040.....44 hp PTO. Mowed with my MX 6 with the Chinese gearbox and hit some pretty big stuff. I think your flyer is refering to the Spanish gearbox with a 54 HP rating. I'm pretty sure that all the Chinese gearboxes are rated 75 and 90 HP peak. Whatever that means. If yours has the Chinese box on it slap it on your tractor and go. If you still worried get the serial number and take it to your local JD dealer and have them run it and I'm sure it will come up fine and not one of the MX's that have the issues. Check your IM box for more info on the MX 6 from me.

MX6 Made in China 9.238.802.00 AW 34340 lasted for very few hours and broke mowing the right of way along highway. 2 1/2 strips and on 3rd strip fell off. Broken shaft #26 W52917 $775.00 + seals and other poarts and taxes.
Bought a used 286 Bush hog for this price and never looked back at mower when a noise was created.
