I've been a lurker here for quite some time. I'm buying a bh92 today if it will handle lifting and placing 1200 to 1500 pound pipes. Can this backhoe handle that kind of weight? Any help is very appreciated. The dealer said he thinks that it will handle 2,600 pounds, but wasn't sure. I just don't want to drop over 8 grand on something that might not handle the job it's bought for.

Wow, that's a lot of weight to be lifting with a hoe attachment.

The answer is not simple. You can lift 3 ways: with the boom, dipper, or bucket cylinders.
The first is the weakest and the last is the strongest. Your tractor puts out 2500psi, and
that's good. The Kubota specs hopefully use that # and set the relief at 2500 on the
hoe.

The greatest digging force the hoe can produce is with the bkt cyl at max mechanical
advantage. In lifting with the bkt cyl only (pulling instead of pushing), your force
is substantially less than this so-called "breakout" force. That's due to the rod
taking up space in your cylinder. You can calculate the reduced lifting force of
your bkt cyl, knowing what the breakout force is. Of course, you can't lift very high
with just the bkt cyl.

The dipper cyl can lift, too, but substantially less than the bkt cyl. A similar calc
can be used to estimate this so-called "craning force".

I think you are asking an awful lot here, and all this lifting can over-pressure the
boom cylinder, depending on how far out you are doing the lifting.

My B 26 is not limited by hydraulic forces in lift. It is limited in how much the tractor can lift prior to tipping up. I have reached out with the hoe straigth to the back with hoe fully extended and trying to lift a rock that raised the front end off the ground.

Here are the specs for the BH

BACKHOE DIGGING FORCE (Per SAE J49)
With arm cylinder 2698 lbs. (12000 N)
With bucket cylinder 4548 lbs. (20230 N)

Products: BH92 Kubota Canada Ltd.

You probably will not know the answer until you try to lift that weight.

The hydraulics will either go to relief, or the tractor front end will lift.

Maybe extra weights on the front.

From JJ's link,

Biggest bucket is 36", weighs 230 pounds and holds 5.7 cuft. Soil is about 100 lb per cuft, so the hoe is lifting 570+230 pounds or 800 total pounds. I'd guess that with max effort you could lift around 1000 pounds, but that would be about it. But, that's a guess based on Kubota's typical over build.

for comparison, my full size old ford hoe can lift 1800 pounds but has 4.5" cylinders vs the K's 3.15" cylinders. It also has a 36" bucket but it holds over 10 cuft. My opinion is that 1500 pound pipe may be too much for such a small hoe.

I've run heavy equipment all my life, but when the economy tanked for us here in FL we moved all the equipment to the family farm in KY. I couldn't go due to my own family here. I know I'm wanting more out of this attachment than I can see it doing. The salesman kind of got my hopes up. I would guess 1,500 pounds is roughly twice what the attachment is meant to lift. I'm sure they quoted me digging force, which is much less than lifting. Thank you for the responses.

It really depends on how you need to lift. If lifting is simply picking up a pipe close to tractor, and carrying it, then yes, the backhoe will likely do that. But if you really want a crane, then a backhoe is the wrong attachment.

I would think if the lifting point is close to the swing pin, and he doesn't have to lift high, but just move it horizontal, then the bucket has a large lifting force, and could move it .

The BH weighs about 1800 lbs.

Weight of the tractor is about: 3440 to 3815 pounds

So I don't think lifting a 1000 lbs load will raise the front of the tractor if it is lifted close in .

3-Point Hitch:
I
Rear lift (at 24"/610mm): 2,760 lbs [1251 kg]

What are you going to do with the pipe after you lift it close to the tractor? Its one thing just to lift, but moving and putting in a ditch might be another thing.

The manual for the BH92 shows lift at around 900 lbs. It depends on the angles, etc. Lift is different than digging force. It is definitely a lot less than the LA844 loader base on the size of rocks I can pick up.
